When first contact was made with the Vasudans, it was immediately apparent that the Terran fleet would be at a substantial technological disadvantage in the event of a conflict. Although initially hoping to avoid war, GTA Command wanted to be ready for the eventuality, ordering production of Leto class fighters to be stepped up at BAE, while secretly tasking the Han Ronald consortium to develop a more advanced successor craft. The Claymore is that craft, and it improved in almost every way over the Leto. It is faster and more manoeuvrable, better armoured, and equipped with larger primary and secondary magazines. Only the prohibitive cost, and the efficiencies associated with the mature construction pathway for4 the Leto and its variants, have kep the Claymore from widespread deployment. For now, it is restricted to a small number of carriers and elite squadrons.
