Christened Deucalion by researchers, this is an ancestral planetoid that, according to detailed astrophysical models, collided with proto-Melancthon early in the history of Ross 128. The consequent coalescence of the two terrestrial masses allowed Melancthon to have an iron-enriched core, a stronger magnetic field and, consequently, an overall better protection from solar radiation, as well as a thin atmosphere; it also caused Melancthon to avoid a tidal lock with its parent star. According to the above mentioned models, the collision has likely happened due to a gravitational perturbation caused by a nearby massive star or black hole: planetary accretion models have not yielded results sufficient to justify the collision.

The name of this celestial body was chosen via a poll posted by a SerRes team member on social media. Melancthon got 57% of the votes while the second option, Deucalion, got 43%; the latter was ultimately used for the ancestral planetoid Melancthon collided with eons before FreeSpace. Though Deucalion is a character from Greek mythology, its appearance in SR is a tribute to a celestial body from the Colony Wars series which is mentioned several times but does not appear in any mission.
Melancthon is a terrestrial planet in Ross 128, used by the GTA as a military outpost of minor importance. Its primary role was communication array support due to a large network of six comm facilities spread between the poles (2) and equidistant locations across the equator (4). Said network was built as per a specific pattern known in the Galactic Terran Alliance as OCTCON or Octahedron Configuration. Moreso, the planet was at least partially screened from solar radiation thanks to an iron-rich core and a thin atmosphere, both deemed due to an ancestral collision with a planetoid christened by researchers as Deucalion. Though peripheral from the perspective of the GTA, Melancthon also housed several industries for ore extraction, both from the surface of the planet itself and regolith carried over by winds. It was also a well-known theater of engagement between GTA and PVE forces in the system.

The planet was gaining importance and strategic value as the GTA was coming to the conclusion that Ross 128 was safely connected to at least another system, later found to be Laramis. It would have been the ideal communication relay between the newly discovered systems and the rest of GTA space, but the Great War effectively disrupted these plans. In addition to that, and showing an atypical strategy, Shivan forces bombarded and destroyed the OCTCON network, causing communications with Terran expeditionary forces in Laramis and beyond to be severed for no less than a full month.

The name of this celestial body was chosen via a poll posted by a SerRes team member on social media. Melancthon got 57% of the votes while the second option, Deucalion, got 43%; the latter was ultimately used for the ancestral planetoid Melancthon collided with eons before FreeSpace. Though Melancthon and its numerous variants are common as last names, its appearance in SR is a tribute to a celestial body from the Colony Wars series.
Description:
Series Resurrecta Tech Room Description
An elite prototype Block III of the Athena line of light bombers was developed by Dynamic Metamer specifically for the Adharan Navy, mostly thanks to the cemented relations between this corporation and the Coalition. Christened the ACB Enyo, this unit features two additional primary weapon mounts, and an expanded secondary capacity divided between three independent fire control systems, as well as an enhanced afterburner.

Although the Athena and its derivatives seem to be in decline across Pan-Terran military forces, the Adhara Coalition strongly favors the light bomber concept over the heavy fighter, and adapts its squadrons accordingly. Although the Enyo retains all the basic features of the Athena, it's also a better overall dogfighter compatible with the majority of modern weaponry meant for that task. In the right tactical conditions, Enyo wings would be indistinguishable in terms of dogfighting capabilities from ordinary fighter wings. As of early 2342, the deployment of the Block III Athena, or Enyo, light bombers is at an early stage. Present only onboard the most important installations and warships, the replacement of Athena units with the Enyo is an ongoing process. This involves not only introducing completely new Enyo units, but also extensive retrofits of Block II Athena bombers at the Dynamic Metamer facilities in Capella to bring them up to Enyo standard.
Veteran Comments
Chanticleer SOC Loop C

Location: Artemis Station, Europa
Background
The GTD Phoenicia has emerged from subspace off-course, and Ned and the remnants of the Phoenicia's air wing have to cover it until reinforcements arrive.

Walkthrough
Your default ship is the Perseus, but the GTF Aurora and GTF Kulas also both work well. You'll be flying intercept, so pick appropriate weapons. You want something fast.

You launch from the Phoenicia's hangar bay. In a little while the Elysium-class transport Petra jumps in with an escort of three Myrmidon fighters. Captain Asakawa is suspicious and asks you to scan the Petra. The Petra is not, in fact, the repair transport. It's carrying a bomb, and the escorts are being flown by Federal pilots. Get clear of the transport and shoot down the escorts quickly. Stay away from the Petra - when it blows, the blast is large enough to destroy your fighter.

In the meantime, the UEF jumps in a wing of Uriels, a wing of Uhlans, and two UEC Custos cruisers, attempting to disable the Phoenicia's engines before it can reach Artemis Station. Prioritize the gunships. They're carrying Paveways and pose the largest threat to the Phoenicia. Once the strike force has taken heavy losses, they warp out.

You earn the SOC Unit Crest at the completion of the mission. If you successfully defend the Phoenicia, you unlock the Pegasus stealth fighter for the rest of the campaign. (It is less of a useful tool and more of a fun toy for the last two missions.) You can proceed to the next mission even if the Phoenicia is disabled, but you get a different debriefing.

Notes
* If you fly an Aurora, you'll get scans of the Petra from ~1000m away from the transport, so you don't start the dogfight on top of the UEF Myrmidons.
* The mission's name references a quotation from General W.T. Sherman, after the disastrous first day of the Battle of Shiloh.
Qweqwe321https://wiki.hard-light.net/index.php/AntietamAntietam2024-01-14T03:02:47Z
Qweqwe321: /* Walkthrough */

Chanticleer SOC Loop B

Location: Delta Serpentis Jump Node
Background
Ned Mozingo's SOC mission has gone very wrong. It's about to get worse.

Walkthrough
This is a red alert mission, with your health and ammunition the same as at the end of A Dish Best Served Cold. You'll still keep the Pegasus.

You'll start at the edge of a fleet battle, with Federal UEB Durga bombers launching at the Vengeance. You're the closest ships, so you're on intercept. The Durgas are slow and you're stealthy, so get right up in their faces and blast them. Once you've destroyed the bombers, Command tells you to upload the virus meant for the UEX Maitreya to the UESc Shen Kuo-class science ship Avicenna at the rear of the formation to get rid of the beam jamming. Go straight down the middle of the UEF warship formation. Keep the Avicenna targeted and stay within 500 meters to upload the virus. If you're fast, you should be able to upload the virus before the escort fighters can react. Watch the fireworks as the Avicenna gets blasted into kingdom come, and then the Alliance battlegroup turns its guns on the frigate Ridwan. The battle has turned in your favor, big-time.

Command then detects a big subspace transit incoming, and tells you to move to intercept positions. There's only one problem: it's the unarmed, barely functional hulk of the GTD Washington, being used to draw you off. Shortly after, the Federation warps in an entire squadron of UEB Vajradhara heavy bombers and UEF Uriel gunships. They blindside the Vengeance and take it down. The battlegroup retreats to Artemis Station in disarray. Jump out.

Notes
* If you're too slow and the UEF destroys the Vengeance before you can knock out the Avicenna, the UEF will sortie a massive bomber wave at the Phoenicia. Once that happens, there's nothing you can do.
* The UED Washington is the same hulk that was seen in Mission 3.
* The mission is named after the Battle of Antietam, the single bloodiest day of the American Civil War.
Qweqwe321https://wiki.hard-light.net/index.php/A_Dish_Best_Served_ColdA Dish Best Served Cold2024-01-14T02:47:09Z
Qweqwe321:

Chanticleer SOC Loop A

Location: Delta Serpentis Jump Node/Florence Station, Asteroid Belt/Beta Aquilae Jump Node
Background
Lt. Cmdr. Mozingo is tapped for a dangerous long-range reconnaissance mission by Special Operations Command.

Walkthrough
You have been temporarily reassigned temporarily to the GTD Vengeance, flying with the 191st Black Watch, Special Operations Command. You are required to fly the GTF Pegasus. Pick your favorite dogfighting weapons. You will not have a support ship, so be smart about your secondary choices. The Pegasus only has two gunpoints, so the Kayser, Prometheus S and Balor are all good options.

You'll start in the GTD Vengeance's fighter bay. After the dialogue, warp out to Florence Station. Once you arrive, you'll see six Uhlans designated Pisces, and a wing of UEC Custos cruisers designated Umbriel. If you get too close to the fighters or cruisers, you'll be detected. All you have to do is get within 200 meters to the station to upload the data. If you're having trouble, aim for the big hole in the middle of the station. Once the data is uploaded, get clear of the enemy ships, at least 3000 meters. A science ship warps in with another wing of fighters; they're too far away to pose a danger to you. After the dialogue, warp out to the Beta Aquilae jump node.

On arrival at the node, you enter within the flak envelope of the UEFg Hudson, a Purusha-class frigate, with an AWACS, a mining ship and a wing of Custos cruisers. The AWACS is jamming your long-range comms, too. Immediately pull up, hit your burners, max out your engines, and run away as fast as you can. Don't try to dogfight. Just run. You're outnumbered and outgunned, and thankfully your fighter is faster and more maneuverable than what the Feds have.

Once you get out of jamming range, you contact Command. The Federation has launched a massive attack on the Vengeance and the Phoenicia at the node. You're immediately recalled. Jump out to end the mission.

Notes
* There is a bonus objective for uploading the virus without being detected by the cruisers or the fighters.
* This mission takes place after SOC lost three full squadrons during a disastrous raid on a Jovian refinery.
Qweqwe321https://wiki.hard-light.net/index.php/Evacuation_DayEvacuation Day2024-01-01T23:10:09Z
Qweqwe321: /* Background */

Location: GTVA Neptune Headquarters
Background
The date is December 4, 2387, 2 1/2 years into the Sol-GTVA war. GTVA Admiral Steele has ordered the exposed GTVA Neptune fortifications to be evacuated. Overseeing the evacuation is the GTD Carthage task force and its badly depleted air wing. After the brutal Battle of Saturn, the Carthage's task force is in desperate need of a refit, and its pilots know it.

Two wings, including the veteran Lt. Cmdr. Ned Mozingo, launch to guard an evacuation convoy led by the cruiser GVC Pepi. A fleet-sized Federation task force warps in, led by the Karuna-class UEFg Serenity and two Narayana artillery frigates, the Vikrant and Toreador. A major battle is imminent. Carthage control orders Mozingo's wing to jump out with the transports, while the other escort wing is reassigned to cover the Carthage. Mozingo and his wingman ask to stay behind and fight. The request is denied; Mozingo's wing is ordered to stay with the convoy and cover its retreat to Artemis Station. He and his wing jump out reluctantly.
