The Reconstruction, sometimes referred to as the Reconstruction Period or Reconstruction Era, was a series of political events which led to advancing technology and preparing for the Shivans' return. The Reconstruction included many major events, such as the formation of the Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance and the Beta Aquilae Convention.

After the destruction of the SD Lucifer, the Terran and Vasudan species were faced with having to rebuild their respective civilizations. A coup by rogue members of Galactic Terran Intelligence was only the first in a series of splinterings in the former Galactic Terran Alliance.

2335:
On or shortly after March 29th: SD Lucifer destroyed by pilots from the GTD Bastion while exiting subspace in Sol. The Sol-Delta Serpentis jump node collapses, severing Earth from the rest of the GTA.

Later that year: a branch of Galactic Terran Intelligence stages a rebellion that culminated with the destruction of the GTD Hades, the rebel superdestroyer.

Between 2335 and 2339:
Fragmented GTA regional governments collapse into independent groups, including the Adhara Coalition, the Antares Federation, the Regulus Syndicate, and the Luyten New Alliance.

Beam weapon technology is developed, and a massive refit program for all warships is begun to integrate this new weaponry. Design work on the GVCv Sobek begins after the destruction of Vasuda Prime in 2335.

2339:
Vasudan Emperor Khonsu II ascends to the throne and immediately begins a restructuring of the Vasudan government. The corrupt Vasudan parliament is disbanded and replaced with the Vasudan Imperium. Khonsu proves to be a brilliant leader, and brings the Vasudan people into a renaissance.

2345:
*The Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance is formed.
*On the tenth anniversary of the Shivan attack on Ross 128, Khonsu II proposes the construction of a joint Terran-Vasudan endeavor to counter any future Shivan threat.

Between 2345 and 2366
The eradication of the Hammer of Light in Operation Templar.

Circa 2347:
Construction of the GTVA Colossus begins.

2358:
The Beta Aquilae Convention, or BETAC, disbands all former Terran blocs, centralizes power in the GTVA, and organizes the military, political, and economic systems of the member systems.

2366:
Admiral Aken Bosch of the GTVA 6th Fleet secedes from the GTVA and forms his own government, Neo-Terra, in Polaris. The governments of Regulus and Sirius also defect to the NTF soon afterwards.
The Great War was the first invasion of the menacing Shivans in the year of 2335. The outbreak of this war caused the Terrans and Vasudans to set aside their differences and combat the mutual threat. The Shivan armada, led by the shielded superdestroyer SD Lucifer, marched through the Terran and Vasudan lines of defense, destroyed the Vasudan homeworld of Vasuda Prime, and then set a course for Earth. Ultimately, Ancient artifacts discovered in Deneb and Altair led to the Lucifer's destruction while exiting the jump node to Sol, collapsing it.
This class is probably the most powerful Shivan capital vessel, second only to the SJ Sathanas and maybe the SD Lucifer. In possesion of 4 forward-facing beam cannons, it can rip through the hull of a GTD Hecate or an Orion-class destroyer in under a minute, and take out smaller vessels within seconds. Its anti-capital ship weaponry make it a threat to any vessel, even one the size of the GTVA Colossus.

But the anti-capital beams come at a price. The Ravana-class is more vulnerable to fighter and bomber attacks than its brother, the Demon-class. Still, it would take a large number of squadrons to take out such a target.
Veteran Comments
{{comment|The Ravana is scary-looking, but it's not tough. Weaker in terms of hull strength, and MUCH weaker in terms of turret strength then the Demon, the Ravana pays for its attack-oriented design with weak defenses. Indeed, fighters and bombers can range over the front three-quarters of Ravana's upper surfaces with near-impunity, and the lower-spine-mounted SAAA beam is placed too far back to defend the Ravana's main guns. It has a flak turret and another SAAA for anyone who comes up behind it, however. A capital ship behind a Ravana, on the other hand, is the Shivan destroyer's death sentence, as its engine subsystems are not strong and cover nearly the whole rear surface of the destroyer. Paired Trebuchets to the main beams the moment one of these enters the mission, then ignore it unless directed otherwise.

In The Great Hunt I was actually able to destroy the Ravana's main beam cannons before it fired on the Deimos corvettes, that's how weak they are. (Didn't make a difference, the corvette is destroyed by a SEXP). However, the Ravana, if used in its intended offensive role, can easily decimate a destroyer before being destroyed.

In a nutshell, the Ravana is useless if it is engaged from behind, and a light threat if side to side with another destroyer. This destroyer's saving grace is in its raw firepower facing foward. When deployed in a strategic position, or jumping in behind another destroyer, this beast will be your worst nightmare. Since most destroyers have their main beams facing forward and the odd ligher beam mounted aft (in the Hecate's case, two), it can dish out enough firepower to level the destroyer, and only take moderate damage. but this is only the case when the Hecate is alone. Roughly two wings of fighters, of any class, can knock out any anti-cap beam the Ravana wields & keep fighter cover on a friendly vessel. Just keep an eye on its beam cannons & you should get out all right. As stated before, the Ravana is no Demon, so it can't take as much punishment.

Ah yes, the Ravana is a fearsome sight, and it does have some fearsome weapons to suit...only that they're all pointing forwards. That single SAAA on its rear may be an annoyance to bombers, but that's all it has for rear fighter-bomber cover. Destroy it and get a corvette to jump in behind it, and the Ravana's finished.}}
The Centaur support ship is designed to get in and out of battle as quick as possible. It is fast, and quite maneuverable, allowing it to dock with fighters in a minimum amount of time. Most notable about the Centaur, however, is its extremely large explosion radius. The amount of warheads carried on a support ship makes it very dangerous to be close to an exploding Centaur.<br>
While the Boanerges can inflict more damage, the Artemis can undertake (and return from) missions the slower Boanerges would have no hope of surviving. All Artemis-class bombers in the GVTA fleet are currently serving with the 2nd and 3rd Battle Groups.
While not the most potent dogfighter, its primary weapons placement mean you can hit a target that is veering out of your sight, or you can compensate by aiming slightly to the left or right of your intended target. I personally love the Artemis for its maneuverability and top speed. Firing your Cyclops at full burners with this means the bombs will almost definitely hit, as they're travelling too fast to be hit. A true strike bomber, in every sense of the word.}}

The NTF Boadicea was originally an asteroid in the Deneb system. During a depot raid, a wing from the 53rd Hammerheads picked up an unusual signal and moved to investigate. Their signal turned out to be this half-breed of a shipyard and a really big rock. Shortly afterwards, the asteroid splintered, revealing it's deadly cargo: the NTF Iceni, a unique vessel constructed to the plans of the traitorous Admiral Bosch within the asteroid. Shortly thereafter, the Iceni jumped out and was able to escape the Deneb, easily escaping an unusually poor attempt at blockade.

It's possible to use the Boadicea as a regular asteroid base (ie, to prevent it from breaking up to reveal the Iceni). Using every-time or subsys-guardian-threshold SEXPs, keep its Asteroid01 subsystem from being destroyed, and the Iceni tucked inside will never be revealed. If destroyed-before-mission, this unit also makes great space debris, although remember that debris self-destruct after a few minutes.
FS2 Tech Room Description
The stealth prototype GVF Ptah was a top-secret development project assigned to Vasudan conglomerate Akheton Corp. Designed to be invisible to standard detection arrays mounted on combat craft, Ptahs have performed admirably during their OpEval period. The masking materials and blending technologies used across their outer surfaces seem to confuse Shivan detection systems as well. The Ptah is currently available only to select fighter units in the Vasudan navy, with no word on when they will be more widely distributed.
{{comment|
Statistically identical to the GTF Pegasus, only 2 meters shorter and somwhat thicker, this is more of a recon craft than a fighter; don't get in any big dogfights in this ship. It maneuvers like a dream, even better than the GVF Serapis, but its weak defenses and limited secondary capacity play against it. It cannot be targeted unless there is an AWACS vessel nearby, allowing it to do things like scanning a Sathanas, covertly.

This ship is a piece of ****! If the vasudans had done a joint terran/vasudan stealth fighter project like they did with the ullyses the result would have been somthing far better than this.

It is statistically identical to the Pegasus, but is actually worse. Its target profile is much bigger than that of the Pegasus. Rather than being a razor thin triangle, the Ptah is more of a scrunched up snail. The snail is compact, but is not as difficult to hit as the Pegasus. In addition, it is not as hard to see as the Pegasus in space or nebula environments.

Correction. Almost statistically identical to the Pegasus. The Ptah can only carry Mekhu instead of Subach. Also, the Pegasus'/Ptah's tabling is inconsistant and contains references stating that the Peg has 2 gun mounts and 1 missile rack versus Ptah's 1 and 2, respectively, but in defining secondary bay size and number of default primaries later in the same table ships are identical.
While far more rare than its counterpart, the Cain-class cruiser, the Lilith is one of the most ferocious cruisers we have had the misfortune of combating. It has extremely strong weapon systems, as well as a very thick armor which our cannons can barely penetrate. One for one, the Lilith can easily destroy any of our cruisers. It is for this reason that they should be considered a primary target for all bomber squadrons in the GTA.<br><br>
The Lilith should be considered a Class A threat to any ships that encounter it.

FS2 Tech Room Description
The SC Lilith class of Shivan cruisers is a far-deadlier foe than the Cain class. Nearly impenetrable armor plating enables it to withstand tremendous punishment, enabling its nine turrets to lash out at warships and combat spacecraft with impunity.
FS2 Demo Tech Room Description
This big Shivan Mama is loaded with turrety goodness. Moloch is the name of another larger form of Aeshma, a many armed, many weaponed Indian goddess.

FS2 Tech Room Description
Only one class of Shivan ship is classified as a corvette - the SCv Moloch class. Though they're physically as large as the GTCv Deimos class, Molochs do not seem to pack the same punch. They are far more deadly than any Shivan cruisers, however.

Developer Notes
None

Name origin
In Hebrew, Moloch is most commonly associated with sacrifice.

Moloch is a form of the ancient Carthagian god Baal, named moloch-baal. This god was depicted as a winged taurus with a fire breathing mouth in which men were thrown in to be sacrificed. The bible then demonised moloch baal: Possibly the golden taurus the hebrews were worshipping when moses came down from the sinai mount was referred to this deity.
Veteran Comments
{{comment|Moloch is a poor excuse for a Shivan vessel and an even poorer excuse for a corvette. A Lilith poses more threat to allied forces than this big target. Its only saving grace is its ability to carry fighters, but it's never enough to turn the tide of battle.

The Moloch is an opponent to be taken seriously, despite all the negative commentary, and the statement a Deimos can take one on successfully is somewhat debateable. Shivans use much more effective (and faster-cycling) direct-fire beams, of which the Moloch has three SRed-types. Like most Shivan capital craft, its antifighter defenses are rather less impressive then those of a comparable Terran ship. Despite this the Moloch's defenses are nonetheless probably the best, pound for pound, of any Shivan capital craft. It mounts a considerable number of flak guns, and they are well-posistioned. The broadside flaks are placed in such a way as to make them difficult to target at range, but still provide good coverage to the sides of the ship. Eliminating them requires getting in dangerously close. The aft flak is more vunerable, but is also a heavy mount and still capable of inflicting significant damage. The Moloch is a dangerous opponent to an unwary fightercraft. Fortunately, there are no anti-fighter beams.

The fighterbay is never used in the Freespace 2 campaign. The Moloch has by far the worst firepower and anti-fighter defenses of any corvette, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a niche. The Moloch is a cruiser hunter, easily capable of destroying one of the best cruisers in the game, the Aeolus, which the Moloch survives without suffering any real damage. However, when faced with a cruiser and a wing of heavy assault fighters, as in the demo mission Crisis in Capella the Moloch is in deep trouble, provided the fighters can destroy its main beam turrets quickly enough (they can). Under few circumstances will a Moloch prevail over a GTCv Deimos, unless the Moloch launches bombers, the Deimos's many flak guns and AAA turrets add to its total firepower, and although the SReds are definitely more accurate, the TerSlash does 2.2 times the maximum sustained damage, and the Deimos has four, as opposed to the Moloch's three. However, if the Moloch is a good distance away, its accurate SReds will be more effective than the TerSlash beams of the Deimos. Still, in a poll, it was found few people actually consider the Moloch superior to the Deimos.

I don't wanna insult anyone, but everybody who says this ship isn't dangerous has never fought it! :) The plating of its turrets is more than poor in comparison to the over corvettes, yes. But:
Firstly: Its anti-fighter missiles can hit yout everywhere. At a Sobek, I can hide beneath the rear side and it won't hit me if I just take out one single flak gun.
Secondly: The convoluted design of the Moloch makes it much more difficult to disarm than a Sobek for example. At the Sobek I can park two klicks above and eliminate almost all of its turrets, including the main beam cannons. At the Moloch the antifighter and beam cannons are evenly spread all over the ship.
My conclusion: Maybe not as good as the Deimos, but definitely better than the Sobek - which is already deadly!
Do not underestimate the Moloch, just because of the distorted image the main campaign gives of it. They also misused the Aeolus!

Not as good as the Sobek. It really isn't. No anti-fighter beams on this thing. But its still troublesome to attack due to the sheer number of missiles it can shoot out. The SReds are a little underpowered in comparison to its size, but it is still capable of taking out cruisers and other corvettes.

The Moloch has a blind spot if you position yourself directly in front of it with a slight elevation. Here, the only weapon that can hit you is a single blob turret which is easily taken out, leaving you safe to lob off bombs with no fear of flak or AAA beams.

Another thing to note is that it doesn't have any AAA to begin with.

Ah yes, the Ravana is a fearsome sight, and it does have some fearsome weapons to suit...only that they're all pointing forwards. That single SAAA on its rear may be an annoyance to bombers, but that's all it has for rear fighter-bomber cover. Destroy it and get a corvette to jump in behind it, and the Ravana's finished.}}

Background
The SD Lucifer was a massive superdestroyer that led the Shivan incursion during The Great War. Armed with what would be termed today as 'beam cannons', the Lucifer possessed enough firepower to destroy capital ships and bombard planetary targets with ease. The vessel was rendered invulnerable to Terran and Vasudan weapons through the employment of an advanced shielding system. Unable to be stopped, the Lucifer lay waste to entire worlds, including Vasuda Prime.

In the ending phase of The Great War, Vasudan scientists fleeing their homeworld's destruction discovered Ancient artifacts on a planet in the Altair system. The information enclosed in the artifacts described the technology necessary to track vessels in subspace, something that neither Terrans or Vasudans had been able to do before. Coupled with the knowledge that shields did not function in subspace, a desperate plan was formulated to stop the Lucifer before the superdestroyer destroyed Sol.

Launching from the GTD Bastion, a small number of fighter and bomber wings followed the Lucifer into subspace as the destroyer made the jump from Delta Serpentis to Sol. The gamble succeeded, destroying the Lucifer and saving Sol. Unfortunately, the destruction of the Lucifer within the subspace corridor had the unintended side effect of collapsing the subspace corridor from Sol to Delta Serpentis, cutting off the heart of the Galactic Terran Alliance from the rest of the universe. However, the victory over the Lucifer effectively ended the Shivan incursion and Terran and Vasudan forces quickly evicted the remaining Shivan forces from their territories.

Description:
FS1 Tech Room Description
The Lucifer is the greatest threat to the survival of the GTA, the PVN, and both the Terran and Vasudan species. It wields three massive Flux Cannons which can destroy one of our capital ships in a few hits. These same cannons have been seen bombarding colonized worlds. With four full fighter squadrons, and a massive array of defensive turrets, the Lucifer would be extremely difficult to destroy.<br><br>
The fact that it is protected by a sheath shielding system which makes it completely impervious to any kind of kinetic or plasma damage makes it impossible to destroy. We have yet to find a way to breach this shielding technology. It is hoped that a solution will be found soon.
Assuming that a solution is found, we have managed to gather enough data on the Lucifer to destroy it. In a recon mission, we were able to determine that the Lucifer is powered by five reactors across its surface. If these reactors are destroyed in a short amount of time, the Lucifer will be stopped.<br><br>
If we cannot stop the Lucifer, we do not expect to be able to defeat the Shivans.<br><br>
We have no way of knowing if there are more than one Lucifer-class destroyer. However, any that exist should be considered more dangerous than a Class A threat.

FS2 Tech Room Description
The SD Lucifer was a massive superdestroyer that led the Shivan armada in the Great War. No weapon in the allied arsenal could penetrate the Lucifer's shields. In the Altair system, Vasudan scientists uncovered ancient artifacts that explained how to track ships into subspace, where the Lucifer's shields would not function. A desperate mission to attack the Lucifer in subspace succeeded. But the explosion of the Lucifer collapsed the Sol jump node, severing all contact with Earth. The victory over the Lucifer effectively ended the Shivan invasion.

Lucifer Sightings and Fleet Movements during the Great War
The Lucifer's first known sighting was in the Ross 128 system, the prelude to the Great War with the Shivans (FS1 Intro).

The Lucifer did not reemerge until 2/11/35, when it suddenly appeared in the Ribos system, destroying the Tombaugh Installation and all its defences. Terran Command believed that it had tracked the captured Shivan Cruiser, the Taranis, through subspace to the Tombaugh Installation (CB sm2-01a.fsm and CB sm2-05a.fsm).

By 2/20/35, the Shivans had completely bypassed the Terran blockades in Antares and Beta Aquilae, proceeding immediately to Deneb through Vega (CB sm2-07a.fsm). Terran Command believed that the Lucifer would attack Vasuda through Antares, while the Eva, a Shivan Demon-class destroyer, would attack through Deneb.

However, on 2/31/35 the Lucifer was seen jumping into Deneb system from the Deneb-Vega jump node with the SD Eva taking the lead(sm2-08a.fsm and its debriefing, mission briefing sm2-09a.fsm). It is unknown whether the Lucifer jumped to Vega directly from Ribos, or through Antares (the Eva entered Vega through the Antares-Vega jumpnode).

In retaliation for the destruction of the SD Eva, the Lucifer directly confronted and destroyed the GTD Galatea (at 1900hrs 2/31/35; sm2-10a.fsm and its debriefing, CB sm3-01a.fsm).

Shortly afterwards, the Lucifer made the jump to Vasuda through the Deneb-Vasuda jumpnode (CB sm3-01a.fsm). Once in Vasuda, 2/31/25-3/01/35, the Lucifer Fleet bombarded Vasuda Prime from orbit for 13 consecutive hours, rendering the planet uninhabitable. The 'Lucifer fleet rapidly redeployed, now searching for the Terran homeworld.

On 3/01/35-3/02/35, the Lucifer jumped to Beta Aquilae, destroying the Beta Aquilae Installation, but left the PVD Hope and the Beta Aquilae Communications Terminal intact (mission briefing sm3-03a.fsm, CB sm3-04a.fsm).

The Lucifer was not encountered until 3/02/35, when it jumped next to the Deneb-Altair jumpnode, deploying fighter wings to attack transports carrying scientists to the Altair system (sm3-05a.fsm and its debriefing).

By 3/29/35, after determining the location of the Sol system, the Lucifer was reported to be in the Sirius system to make the jump to Delta Serpentis (CB sm3-07a.fsm). GTA Command ordered the GTD Bastion to intercept and destroy the Lucifer before it could reach Sol. Admiral Shima quickly drew up plans to intercept the Lucifer at the Sirius-Delta Serpentis jumpnode. However by the time the Bastion arrived in range of the jumpnode, the Lucifer had already departed the system. Admiral Shima estimated that the Lucifer would reach Earth in 40 hours (Debriefing 4: sm3-07a.fsm).

On the GTD Bastion's final approach to the Delta Serpentis-Sol jumpnode, the Lucifer was on the brink of jumping to Sol (sm3-08a.fsm). The Bastion scrambled its fighters and a wing of Ursa Bombers to pursue the Lucifer into subspace. While inside the subspace corridor, the Ursa bombers managed to destroy all five of the Lucifer's reactors, resulting in the Lucifer's destruction (sm3-09a.fsm).

Inconsistency
In the Command Briefing of sm2-08a.fsm (2/31/35), Admiral Wolf indicates that Alpha 1 had investigated the Lucifer in Antares: "We have now entered the Deneb system. After your investigation of the Lucifer at Antares, Terran Command has deduced that the Shivans will be attempting a multiple pronged attack on Vasuda Prime coming from Deneb and Antares." However, Alpha 1 does not see the Lucifer in Antares, nor does Alpha 1 play a mission "investigating" the Lucifer in Antares. It may be that the mission designer incorrectly meant Alpha 1's investigation of the Eva in Antares near the Antares-Vega Jump Node (which jumped out shortly after its arrival; sm2-06a.fsm).
The name "Lucifer" is of Latin origin. It's composed by the name lux, which means light, and the verb ferre, which has many meanings (in this case bringing and bearing fit well). The meaning of the name would be "Bringer/Bearer of Light".

While the SD Lucifer was well-designed for FS1, it did not participate very much in the actual missions. This obviously resulted in the ship's weapons being unbalanced. For FreeSpace 2, she can be equiped with two frontier beam weapons, making the Lucifer-class a worthier adversary to any capital ship than she was in FreeSpace.

People who say that the Lucifer is a "worthier adversary" in FS2 are very mistaken. The Shivan Super Lasers are closer to LReds than SReds. The Lucifer in its FS2 configuration is basically target practice for an Orion or even a Deimos. Very durable target practice, but target practice nonetheless.}}
The Bast freighter is unarmed, and considered a non threat. We believe that it is mainly used by Vasudan civilians, but we have seen some in front line operations. It has very low target value, but should be destroyed, as any kind of resupply ship is a danger to the GTA.
Description:
FS1 Tech Room Description
The Osiris has now become the standard bomber for use in PVN operations. It has replaced the Amun, correcting many of the faults of its predecessor. It is not quite as sturdy, but it has nearly the same weapons capacity, and is faster and more maneuverable.<br><br>
The Osiris should be considered a C class threat to Fenris class cruisers, and a D class threat otherwise.

FS2 Tech Room Description
The GVB Osiris was the primary bomber of the PVN during the Great War. It is showing its age during the current conflict, as the more advanced Bakha and Sekhmet bombers have replaced it on the front lines in most theatres of conflict. Osiris bombers still in service have been retrofitted to make them compatible with most GTVA missiles and bombs. If well-protected by fighter escorts, a wing of Osiris bombers can still wreak havoc on enemy cruisers and corvettes.

Developer Notes
Low maneuverability and low top speed. However, carries good payload including space bombs. Most commonly used in cruiser strikes.

Name origin
In Egyptian mythology, Osiris is the god of life, fertility, and death. His wife and sister was Isis. It is said that Horus was his son.
Description:
FS1 Tech Room Description
The Thoth is the most dangerous ship to be created by the PVN. Manufactured solely at the Altairian Ship Yards, the Thoth has only been produced in small numbers as of yet. When the Altairian Yards defected to the Hammer of Light rebels, the production of Thoths by the PVN dropped to nil. The Thoth is now completely in the hands of the Hammer of Light.<br><br>
What makes the Thoth so versatile is its small size, extremely high maneuverability, and advanced weapon systems. It is extremely difficult to hit, in the hands of a skilled pilot. The design for the Thoth was simultaneous with the design for the Ulysses, and these two ships were designed by some of the same technicians. Thus they are quite a match for our Ulysses class fighters. This is why they are considered a B class threat. Any non registered Thoths should be destroyed immediately, and their presence reported upon completion of the mission.

FS2 Tech Room Description
The GVF Thoth has been manufactured exclusively in the Sahr Corp.'s shipyards at Altair for over 40 years. During the heyday of the Hammer of Light, the HoL captured these yards and the Thoth became a primary fighter among HoL forces. When these shipyards were recaptured, the Thoth once again became an important component of the Vasudan navy. In the hands of a skilled pilot, the Thoth's maneuverability and small size make it a hard target to hit. A single missile bank means that a Thoth pilot relies on his primary weapons to make most kills.

Developer Notes
Excellent fighter. Small and hard to hit, with speed and maneuverability to match. Good payload makes it the most versatile fighter in the PVN.

Name origin
Thoth was an important god in Egyptian mythology. His roles were numerous, and vary between sources. He is most commonly associated with mediating disputes between good and evil. He is also considered to be the god to have taught the Egyptians writing.
Odd discrepancy between the construction dates of the Thoth. FS1 clearly states that it was designed with the Ulysses, meaning it's manufacture could start no earlier than 2335, yet FS2 says the fighter had been in production for "over 40 years." Personally, I accept the FS1 date over the FS2, mostly because of the close relationship between it and the Ulysses.

Despite what the FS2 Tech Description says, the Thoth's lone secondary bank is actually quite spacious, fitting up to 32 Harpoon missiles. This compares favorably with the secondary capacities of the Myrmidon and Perseus: it's identical, only in one bank instead of three or two. Similarly, it has only a single primary weapons bank, but has four guns, giving it impressive rate of fire but little adaptablity once committed to the field. The main fault with this ship in FS2 lies not in the Thoth's weapons but its FS1-era ability to absorb damage, which is badly deficent by FS2.

Compared to the Ulysses this ship has superior firepower, but pays for it with much weaker shielding. On balance I prefer the Terran fighter.

Fun to fly but no good for doing real work. You really can't do anything but dogfight in this, and more often than not, you won't have the opportunity to do nothing but that in the campaign.

In reference to the first comment, if the Thoth really was designed by the same engineers that designed the Ulysses, then the Vasudans managed to design and field a new fighter craft in less than a month. Compare this with the 10 year+ design periods of RL fighters. Even World War II era fighters took at very least a year between initial contract and fielding. This makes me believe that the FS2 date has some meaning, as the Thoth may have been sort of "front-line protoype" since the early days of the T-V War. This jives with what FS1 says about it being "produced in small numbers until now".}}

The GVF Horus was one of the oldest and most widely-used fighters in the Vasudan navy. The Horus was a light interceptor with high speed and maneuverability at the expense of light shielding, armoring, and weaponry.

Description:
FS1 Tech Room Description
The Horus interceptor can outrun any ship in the PVN or the GTA. This makes it extremely dangerous. Its above average weapons capacity, combined with its good maneuverability and shielding make this one of the most well designed Interceptors in the galaxy. This ship is responsible for the destruction of more GTA bombers than any other.<br><br>
As a C class threat, Horus interceptors should be dealt with as quickly as possible.

FS2 Tech Room Description
The GVF Horus was the fastest fighter class during the Great War and it's still the fastest fighter in the GTVA fleet. Its weapon capacity is average for a fighter, with four primary banks and two missile bays. The Horus pays for its speed and maneuverability with thin armor and relatively weak shields. The Horus shines as a bomber interceptor, a role Allied Command puts it in as often as possible. For offensive operations against well-defended targets, however, the Horus is a poor choice.

Developer Notes
Extremely fast with good weapons compatibility. Very useful in any kind of engagement.

Name origin
In Egyptian mythology, Horus was one of the first deities. Over the years, he gained many forms and associations. He is most commonly depicted as a falcon. His father was Osiris, who was (in one myth cycle) killed by Seth.
Veteran Comments
{{comment|
FS2 Horus is slightly more manouverable and more powerful than its FS1 cousin.

The Horus is a good ship in FS1, something to worry you if you're flying a bomber or a Herc. It is a privilege to be able to fly in FS2, and also, strangely superior to the newer Serapis in most respects. Compared to the Serapis the Horus' only serious flaw is smaller secondary banks, and the Horus actually has stronger shields and is faster. These qualities give it a better survival rate in combat then the Serapis, in my experience. Given a choice I will fly the Horus rather than the Serapis every time.

An excellent fighter, especially in multiplayer dogfight games, but the gold in this particular category goes to the Thoth, which is smaller and has better placed primary banks, allowing it to take out enemies with ease with Quad Mekhu HL-D's

In my opinion, easily the best of the Vasudan fighters. Not that this is saying much, since I hate Vasudan ships. It's highly manoueverable, and not made of pasteboard. It even has a reasonable amount of weapons capacity.

The best damn interceptor in the game, though the GTF Perseus is a better fighter craft overall. Highly maneuverable, relatively durable, and a good secondary capacity. It also has the highest speed of anything you will ever fly, and afterburner capacity is pretty big. Personally, my favourite.

I find it weird that while a lot of pilots praise the Horus, I don't. Even at full shields with 23% hull integrity, I couldn't survive the shockwave of a Piranha exploding while defending the Aquitaine. While I would give it the thumbs-up to the Horus for its speed, I think that there is too much...inertia...when it pitches to make it really effective as an interceptor. Personally, I would rather chase down Piranha-wielding Nahemas in a Serapis than chase them in this.
