For fleets and battle groups that have the word "CONFIRMED" next to them, this means I have found a specific reference to that particular fleet and its base system in the FS1 and FS2 games from either a command briefing, the technical database, or a debriefing comment. The rest of the fleets and battle groups I had to extrapolate and do some guess work. I deduced that there were 26 GTVA battle groups from looking at the technical database entry for the GTM Hornet missile, which said that 2.6 million+ Hornet missiles had been stockpiled after the Great War and they were evenly distributed to all of the GTVA battle groups/fleets with each battle group and fleet getting at least 100,000 Hornets each. So 2.6 million divided by 100,000 = 26 fleets/battle groups. I knew that there were at least 12 Terran fleets because of the reference to the 12th Fleet at Ross 128 that I found in a debriefing and the tech database mentions the 13th Battle Group at Deneb in the description for the GVD Hatshepsut. So I reasoned that there were 13 Terran fleets and 13 Vasudan battle groups.

Determining which planets were Vasudan and which were Terran was a little tougher, but from all the specific references I found concerning which planets belonged to whom, I couldn't escape from the conclusion that only Alpha Centauri, Altair, Vasuda Prime, Aldebaran, and Deneb were Vasudan planets. ALL the other planets in the vicinity of Vasuda Prime had specific references that they were Terran planets, NOT Vasudan. In order to square this with my conclusion that there were 13 Terran fleets and 13 Vasudan battle groups, I came to the conclusion that, in order to help cement the mutual trust and cooperation that arose from fighting the Shivans, the Vasudans would base many of their battle groups in Terran systems and protect them for the Terrans, who were already stretched thin guarding the rest of their systems. BETAC and the formulation of the GTVA no doubt helped cement this gesture of trust and friendship.

1st Fleet: Based at Terra (Cut off from GTA/GTVA when SD Lucifer exploded) <br>
2nd Fleet: Based at Delta Serpentis (the Terran capital since contact with Earth was lost) <br>
3rd Fleet (CONFIRMED): Based at Capella <br>
4th Fleet (CONFIRMED): Based at Vega <br>
5th Fleet: Based at Beta Aquilae <br>
6th Fleet (CONFIRMED): Based at Epsilon Pegasi <br>
7th Fleet: Based at Polaris <br>
8th Fleet: Based at Regulus <br>
9th Fleet: Based at Sirius <br>
10th Fleet: Based at Laramis <br>
11th Fleet: Based at Luyten 726-BA <br>
12th Fleet (CONFIRMED): Based at Ross 128 (a bad Terran assignment)<br>
13th Fleet: Based at Wolf 359 (the REALLY badassignment for Terrans)<br>

The 4th Fleet was based at Vega during the Great War and was still based at Vega during FS2 (I found specific in-game references to both), so I'm guessing the Terrans never re-organized the fleet deployments. The Terrans in the GTVA military are no doubt hoping that the 1st Fleet still exists and will rejoin the GTVA once contact is restored. This is why Earth still has the 1st Fleet based there; it's also a morale issue. Acknowledging the loss of the 1st Fleet (the cream of the crop of the Terran military) would be a huge blow to morale, so it's fleet designation was never changed. (This is ALL guesswork here, but I think it's a good guess.)
<br>

The Vasudans are one of the major species within the Freespace Universe.

Physiology
<br>
Vasudans, much like Terrans, are carbon based bipeds, standing upright with their two arms and hands used to manipulate tools. Usually standing at least several feet taller than terrans, the skeletal looking vasudan frame conceals a powerful musculature. Vasudans have brown, mottled skin, and a durable biological system that allows them to withstand the extremely harsh conditions of their home world.

History
Vasudans originate on the fourth planet of the Vasuda system, the only planet in that system that is capable of supporting life. Known as Vasuda Prime, is a relatively hostile world. Both of the twin continents of Vasuda Prime are almost entirely desert, and most of the above-ground water is, even by Vasudan standards, undrinkable. In order to adapt to these surroundings, Vasudans developed quite rapidly.

The Vasudans made first contact with the Terrans some time prior to 2321 (the starting date of the [[14-Year War]). Little data is available on the early days of Terran-Vasudan contact, but it can be assumed to have been quite strained, as it took what seems, through Terran eyes, to be a relatively minor event (a Terran mishandling of a Vasudan ritual known as "The Conversation") to trigger a war between the two species. This war dragged on for fourteen years, until the arrival of the Shivans in 2335.

The Shivans were unselective in their xenocide, attacking both Terrans and Vasudans indiscriminatly, and technologically superior to both. Faced with such a foe, the Terrans and Vasudans formed a military alliance against them. Through this alliance, both Terran and Vasudan technology advanced considerably, with the development of fighter based shields and subspace drives, and subspace tracking, but it came with a terrible price. The Shivan flagship, the SD Lucifer, attacked the Vasudan homeworld from orbit, bombarding it for over seventeen hours, leaving the surface uninhabitable and killing billions. Shortly after this, the Lucifer was destroyed in the Delta Serpentis-Sol jump corridor, effectively ending the war against the Shivans.

Despite the loss of their homeworld, the Vasudan society continued on in the post war era, and managed to recover relatively well. With Vasuda Prime uninhabitable, the capital was moved to Aldebaran and for several years Vasudan society continued in a vein similar to that of the pre-war years. In 2339, however, this came to an abrupt end when the parliament that had ruled the Vasudan race during the previous years was put aside by the Vasudan emperor, Khonsu II, and a new government was formed. Led by the emperor, a leader of unusual acumen and wisdom, this new government led a species-wide economic, social and industrial reconstruction that considerably surpassed the fractured efforts of the Terrans.

Ten years after the Great War, in 2345, the first official Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance was signed. This treaty recognized the autonomy of the two member races, but provided the framework of mutual defence and trade agreements that would become the founding principles of a far stonger alliance. Following the signing of this treaty, Khonsu instigated the Colossus project, a massive joint project that would have theoretically defended both species from any future Shivan incursions.

It took twelve years, but in 2358 the Beta Aquilae Convention (BETAC) solidified the alliance that already existed, recognizing the Vasudan Imperium as one of the three supreme authorities in Terran-Vasudan Space (along with the General Assembly and the Security Council) as a part of the unified government of the Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance. Though the Vasudans and Terrans maintain separate fleets, these flees exist under a common command structure. Technology and information are openly and freely exchanged between the two species.

In 2366 (approximately) Vasudan society was shaken by the emergence of the Neo Terran Front, a Terran rebel group with a strong anti-Vasudan ideology. The NTF exploited the Terran bitterness and jealousy over the near miraculous recovery of the Vasudan society and economy after the Great War, and brought to light simmering tensions between the two theoretically unified species.

In 2367, eighteen months after this rebellion began, however, a greater threat presented itself, in the form of the return of a stronger Shivan armada. This new Shivan fleet was far more dangerous than the Lucifer fleet|, and managed to destroy the entire Capella system. At the same time, however, the NTF rebellion was finally put down, largely by the GTVA Colossus and its fleet. It is not known what impact these events will have on Vasudan society into the future.

Culture
At their core, the Vasudans are a civilization of philosophers, artists, and scholars rather than warriors. They immerse themselves in the teachings of those who came before them, perceiving history not as a linear chronology of events but as a space inhabited by both the living and the dead. To the Terran outsider, Vasudan society appears convoluted and ritualistic. The Vasudans themselves may seem arrogant, treacherous, and superstitious. On the other hand, Vasudans tend to view Terrans as aggressive, paranoid, and stupid. Thirty years of peaceful interaction between Terrans and Vasudans has helped to deconstruct these stereotypes.

Vasudan society is complex and filled with peril for the outsider ignorant of their culture. Vasudans have a range of social tests and protocols, such as The Conversation. A Terran mishandling of The Conversation is presumed to be one of the major causes of the 14-Year War. Prior to the ascension of Khonsu II, The Vasudan government was parliamentary in nature, though it was technically presided over by the Imperial family, in a dynasty that had endured for over ten thousand years, and the Ambassadors, who are quasi-royal go-betweens for the Parliament and the Imperium. This parliament was notorious for its Byzantine treachery, corruption and arrogance.

The crowning achievement of the Vasudan civilization is its language. For the average Terran, the formalities governing its usage are beyond comprehension. Syntax and vocabulary are dictated by such factors as the speaker's age, rank, and caste, the time of day and the phase of the Vasudan calendar, and the relative spatial position of the speaker to the Emperor. This is further compounded by the existence of several alphabets, dozens of verb tenses, and thousands of dialects. A translation device is standard on all GTVA communications systems, enabling Terrans and Vasudans to mutually understand each other.

Technology
Vasudan space exploration has been driven primarily by the need to find planets capable of sustaining their species. During the Great War, Vasudan technology was approximately on par with that of the Terrans, though it remains unclear whether this was the result of independent development, or theft of advanced technology by one or both parties. As the military and social links between the two races became stronger following the war, technological development homogenized due to the free exchange of technology and information promoted by BETAC. Despite this, Vasudan technology remains superior in some areas, such as reactor development. They also have quirks which promote technological development along specific lines, such as the Mekhu HL-7, a Vasudan varient of a terran weapon, altered to increase the range and firing rate, though at the cost of sheer hitting power.

Because the Vasudan homeworld was primarily desert, the Terrans used Egyptian names to designate Vasudan warships during the Terran-Vasudan War and the Great War. After the defeat of the Shivans, the Vasudans insisted on maintaining this convention. The Emperor strongly identified with the history of Ancient Egypt, particularly the longevity of its civilization. Following their Emperor's example, Vasudans will take on what they call a Terran name from the myths and history of ancient Egypt.

Terrans, or humans, are bipedal, carbon-based life forms that evolved from primates several thousand years ago on the third planet in the Sol system. They have an internal skeleton that supports and protects all their internal organs, musculature, and external skin.

Physiology
Compared to Vasudans or Shivans, or even many terrestrial animals, humans are physically weak, able to lift only slightly more than their own body weight (although the species encompasses a wide variety of exceptions). Humans have circumvented this weakness by using their relatively compact and powerful brains to develop tools that give them advantages over their adversaries and the ability to manipulate/change their environments. The ability to reason and use logic has enabled this species to outsmart their competitors. The combination of intelligence and versatility has given the Terran species the flexibility it needed to adapt to the various threats it has faced, and allowed Terrans to evolve from tribal, nomadic primates (not entirely unlike their progenitors) to a spacefaring race.

History
<br> The Terran homeworld of Earth is the third planet in the Sol system, and is well suited to life. Vast oceans cover two thirds of the planet, and a protective magnetospere guards the planet from extreme levels of radiation. The landscape varies between grassy plains, lush forests, frozen wastes and barren deserts. Terran history is one filled with constant turmoil and strife, due to the highly competetive nature of it's dominant species. Humans possess conflicting instincts of social grouping, political interests, and a basic drive for individualism.

The first great age of Earth was that of Antiquity, circa 200 BCE, which saw the rise of the "nation state". Prominent among these was the Roman Empire, which conquered much of the subcontinent of Europe, was the progenitor of much of present Terran politics and social structure. The ancient Greeks were responsible for much of the philosophical underpinings for contemporary political and social thought. The Greeks were the great scientists and artisans of their day, and most Terran starships were later named after the gods of this culture. The Ancient Egyptians formed the basis for nomenclature presently assimilated by Vasudan society. These were the first nation-states on which Terran government was ultimately based.

The fall of Rome by barbarian invaders circa 500 CE marked the beginning of the Dark Ages, a time where most of the grandeur of Rome was lost. Civilizations such as the Mongols, the Aztecs, and the Chinese rose and declined. The fragmented states of Europe fought constantly amongst themselves, and developed newer and deadlier technologies with which to defeat their enemies.

Islamic scientists preserved most of the knowledge of Greece and Rome that was rediscovered in the Renaissance over one thousand years later. Transportation during this time grew to the point where global travel became possible. During the 17th and 18th centuries Europeans discovered, and frequently annihilated, other cultures across the planet in other continents. Colonists settled and prospered over the planet, and the first truly global empire was the British Empire during the 19th century.

The 20th century saw great sweeping technological advancements that made instantaneous communication possible over the entire planet, but it also saw the first incidences of global warfare. The most profound of these wars took place in the middle of the century and involved almost every nation on the planet. Over 55 million Terrans were killed in the Second World War, and terrible weapons, including nuclear weapons, were developed and used. Out of this drive to overcome the enemy came the First Space Age, which saw the first launches of satellites into orbit, and lunar landings made. Efforts were focused on the exploitation of near earth space for commercial and military purposes.

The last global war type conflict between rival political powers ended just prior to the end of the 20th century. The collapse of the Soviet Union brought about a period of relative peace up to the end of the century. This did not mean, however, that conflict did not take place. The end of the bi-polar conflict only loosened the strings of smaller, yet nonetheless vicious, rivalries across the globe. With no over-riding contest to keep them in check, the smaller rivalries quickly broke out into open conflict. Names like Sarajevo, Mogadishu, and Rwanda would cast a pall over these few years of "peace".

The 21st century began with the phenominal expansion of a new technology which would change forever the direction of human culture, the Internet. With this any Terran could tap into the network of computers and their users all over the planet and discover any information they might desire. This tool was used and abused in various ways to inform and educate the populous at an ever increasing rate. By the end of the century, the vast majority of collected Terran knowledge had been spread throughout the globe, and most of the economic and health problems that had plagued humanity since its earliest days were solved, and the nation-state began to evolve into a global-state.

By the 22nd century, Earth's population had exceeded 10 billion. Despite the advancements, Earth could no longer support the needs of its people. Development of the Lunar and Martian colonies was stepped up, and the Second Space Age began. Huge terraforming processes were began and artificial gravity space stations were constructed, with most nations uniting in a common endeavor to save humanity. The population of Mars and Luna grew to the thousands, then the millions. With space travel, the Terran species furthered its growth, both in material ways and in immaterial, philosophical ways.

Exploration of the outer reaches of the Solar system was made a priority in the 23rd century, after the discovery of primitive life forms on the moon of Europa. During the expansive colonization projects, larger and larger space stations and starships were designed and manufatured. By the latter part of the century mining operations in the asteroid belt beyond Mars and on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn was commonplace, but the speed of light limited Terran exploration. Not until the discovery of Subspace in 2316 did the galaxy open up for real colonization, conquest, and exploitation. The system-state evolved into the inter-system state, and with the formation of the Galactic Terran Alliance, a galactic-state.

Culture
<br> Terran culture is founded on the premise of social equality of all Terrans. After witnessing historical atrocities performed by humans solely on the basis that a physical trait or heritage made them somehow inferior, Terran governments forcibly induced human psychological conditioning in the early 22nd century. While unifying the Terran culture as a whole, this also had the unwanted side effects of arrogance and hostility toward alien races.

Terrans are permitted to choose their own careers, and do what they enjoy within the limits of safety. Customs vary widely depending on the original nationality of the individual. Clothing is always worn and is frequently stylized depending on the occasion. Terran language is based on American English, which was a homogenization of several older languages. Religion is entirely dependant on the individual, with little government interference.

While the individual human is usually polite, reasonable, and educated, as a group they can often exhibit irrational behavior. Politicians and dictators in the past have exploited these traits for their own gain.

Technology
<br> Terran ship design has not far departed from the utilitarian cylindrical segments and boxes that made up the first Terran spaceships and space stations. Dull grays and beiges were hallmarks of Terran design through the 24th century. They were utilitarian and cheap to produce, with embellishment limited to stripes of paint and squadron insignia. Despite this, Terran design esthetics have held to the military-industrial themes. Legendary warships like the GTF Apollo, GTB Medusa, and GTD Orion are considered by many to represent the finest in unadulterated Terran design. The familiar lines and sturdy blocks are reassuring reminders of the durability and power of the ships. After Vasudan and Shivan technologies began being implemented, Terran design took a softer turn. Fighters and bombers became the hot-rods of their generation, with the sleek GTF Hercules Mark II, GTB Artemis, and GTCv Deimos adorning many a Terran teenager's wall.

Weaponry on Terran starships is very diverse, reflecting both Terran adaptability for different circumstances and the philosophy that pilots should be able to customize their loadout to their own tastes. All-purpose weapons such as the Subach HL-7, Avenger, and Prometheus are complemented by weapons that have a special effect upon their targets, like the kinetic effect of the Flail rifle and the energy-draining abilities of the Lamprey. Guns with ammunition were used throughout the Unification War until the pulse cannons now in use were developed. Early energy-based weapons were distinctly gaseous in their aural signatures and visual identifications, due to the use of gases like argon and nitrogen used to intensify the laser pulses. Later weaponry used during the second Shivan conflict put more of an emphasis on plasma and electromagnetic weapons, such as the Circe.

Terran missile design is mostly dependant on brute force, rather than finesse. Heavy ordinance like the Phoenix line of heavy missiles and the Cyclops torpedo annihilate large targets, as Terrans prefer to use their primary weapons against smaller, faster targets. Many of the lighter missiles, such as the Interceptor, used by Terran fighters were only made possible through Vasudan improvements in aspect lock times and engine speeds.

The heavy photon beam cannons now mounted on all Terran warships were initially reverse-engineered from the superweapons mounted on the SD Lucifer in 2335 by the Galactic Terran Intelligence engineers working on Project Hades. The ill-fated rebellion of these engineers the next year in their bid to overthrow the Galactic Terran Alliance led to the classification of the weaponry for several years. Once functional beam weaponry was proven to be practical, reliable, and superbly useful, a Vasudan variant was developed for deployment on the Sobek-class of corvettes. These 'slash' beams maximized the spread of the beam fire on a wide arc across the target's hull, increasing the chances of disabling subsystems and turrets. Both Slash beams and Line-of-Sight (LOS) beams are now standard on all Terran warships.

Basics | Mission Types | The HUD | Ships | Weapons

Basics
Alright pilot, lets get to the basics of space combat in FreeSpace 2. In the deep cold of space, nobody can hear you scream, so don't get yourself killed, that's the first rule in any handbook.

If you have the choice, you should make sure you check ever aspect of your ship and wing configuration. Going with the standard loadout may get you by, but there may be better or preferred weaponry out there.

When you hit space, first thing you should check is the nearby friendly ships, your current velocity, armed weapons and configurations, and if there is any immediate threats nearby.

Mission Types
Guard Missions
Protecting a friendly vessel can sometimes prove quite challenging, especially when the enemy forces outnumber you. Fortunately, you can use some things to your advantage. Order your wingmen to protect your escort target, or escort wing. The target being escorted usually has some defenses of its own, use those to your advantage. I've seen many a Basilisk splashed because escorting fighters drew the Shivan fighters into range of the bigger ships guns. If you have 2 wings to work with, this is even easier, you can usually assign one wing to escort while one engages the enemy ships at long range.

If you're helping fend off an opposing capital ship, remember to take out its main beams as soon as possible. When stripped of their beam weapons, capital ships lose much of their offensive firepower, and this can give you a critical advantage in battle. Once the main beam weapons are out, target the anti fighter beams, especially if you're defending a small ship like a cruiser.

Assault Missions
Assault missions usually come in a few flavors. If your attacking an enemy cap-ship, then you'll be wanting a bomber of some kind (usually Sekhmet or Boanerges) and a loadout of Cyclops or Helios. If your mission requires the escort of a bomber wing, then you better have a few Perseus with Harpoons at the ready.

When attacking enemy cap-ships, make sure you knock out some of the turrets or the weapons subsystem before letting loose with the space bombs. Anti fighter beams and Flak cannons are particularly good at eliminating incoming bombs, but even standard plasma turrets can find their marks on occasion.

Stealth Missions
Stealth missions can be among the most challenging to fly, requiring top notch reflexes and situational awareness. Remember to stay as far away as possible from patrolling fighters, and avoid firing your weapons at all costs.

The HUD (Heads Up Display)
The most important interface in the entire game is your Heads Up Display, or more commonly known as HUD. The HUD used in FreeSpace is robust, giving you many options on the brightness, color, and numerous displays designed to help you during the conflict.

The Main Flight Controller
The Main Flight Controller (MFC) is the cluster of instrumentation at the center of the screen, and contains an enormous number of extremely valuable tools. A majority portion of your time in your ship will be spent looking at the MFC since it serves as the focal point of your ship's weapons, flight path, and most critical readouts.

The center of the screen shows the targeting reticle, three small slashes in a triangular arrangement. This where your weapons are pointed. Note that this is the center of your ship's axis, straight ahead in other words. The ship's weapons will be mounted away from the center to varying degrees. For some craft, the distance between the weapon's actual muzzle and the targeting reticle is quite dramatic! It is only through experience and observation that you will be able to know where your weapon's shot is actually going to land relative to the reticle.

Directly below the reticle is a summary of your target's hull and shield strength. This is the same information as presented in the target information box, but here you can see it without taking your eyes off the target. Surrounding the numeric hull strength are four sectors showing shield power. If a quadrant is down, it's good to try hitting that part of the ship rather than chewing on other shield quadrants that are still active.

There are four types of indicators that orbit the edge of the MFC. They are:

1: The target directional indicator: A solid arrow will point the the direction to your current target if that target is not near the center of your view.

2: The aspect indicator: A small "T" shaped marker shows the current aspect, or facing, of the target relative to your ship. If the aspect indicator is in the upper half of its orbit, then the ship is facing toward you. Conversely, if the indicator is in the bottom half, then the target ship is facing away from you. 12 o'clock means the target is heading straight at you, 6 o'clock means you're staring up its engine exhaust. 3 and 9 o'clock indicate directions of travel that are roughly perpendicular to yours.

3: The attacking hostile indicator: One or more hollow red triangles point in the direction of hostiles that are currently attacking (targeting) you. These can be cycled through by using the "Next nearest attaker" key (default 'R').

4: The incoming missile indicator: One or more yellow triangles will point the direction of incoming guided missiles. The length of the line extending from the point of the triangle shows the missile's approximate distance. You will also hear a series of warning beeps that increase in frequency as the missiles near you. Be aware that no warning is shown for dumbfire or manually detonated missiles; you must learn to recognize these weapons by sight and sound alone.

On the left side of the MFC, are your throttle setting and afterburner gauge. Your engine's top speed is displayed; this number will change depending on how much power you have allocated to engines. Your current throttle setting is displayed as a hash mark on this scale. If your ship is set to automatically change speed to follow your target, you will see an "M" indicator next to your throttle setting. The afterburner gauge simply shows how much power is available to drive your ship's powerful afterburner boost feature.

On the right side of the MFC, are the two threat indicators and the weapon energy gauge. The thread indicators show you when an enemy is firing their primary guns at you (top icon), or is attempting missile lock (bottom icon). You will also receive an audible warning if the enemy is trying to missile-lock you. The weapon energy gauge simply shows how much power is available for the firing of your primary guns; keep an eye on this one, as if it reachs zero, you can't fire your guns until some power recharges. If the level gets very low, a percentage will be shown.

Wingman Display
This shows the current wings under your command. Each dot represents a fighter. All are organized into their respective wings (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Epsilon). There may be more wings under your command than shown here. An easy way to see what wings are under your command is to bring up the communications window (default 'C' key), and choose "Wings" ('2' key).

When one of the fighters is under fire and taking hits, their dot will flash briefly. Be sure to keep an eye on the status of vulnerable wings like bombers. A solid green dot is good; a solid red dot means that the fighter is badly damaged. If the dot turns to a hollow green circle, then the ship has left the combat area. If it's a hollow red circle, then the ship has been destroyed or has left the combat area with heavy damage.

Monitoring Display
This display allows you to keep tabs on friendly or enemy craft that are vital to your mission objectives. It allows you to quickly target these ships with a single key press. The monitoring display shows the current hull strength of the target, and will also flash briefly if that ship is under fire. A "D" is shown next to the line if the ship is disabled and unable to move. Be aware that you have control to add or remove ships from this list via a menu shown when pressing te F4 key.

Weapons Display
The top of this display shows your primary weapons. The bottom shows all secondary weapons. Active weapons are marked with a single triangle. In the secondary display, missiles can be dual fired. When such an option is selected, a double triangle is used to mark the display.

Energy Display
This shows where your energy is being allotted to. When your craft is equipped with shields, this is broken into 3 bars, when there is no shields, this is shown with 2 bars. Each bar represents Guns, Shields, and Energy respectively.

Target information box and targeting bracket
When you select a target, it will be surrounded by a box so you can keep track of it easily. Its distance will be shown under the box. Note that this distance may vary from the one shown in the target information box, since one is showing distance to the target's center of mass, while the other is showing the distance to your currently selected turret or sub-system. To the right side of the box, you may see a number of colored dots. These dots indicate how many of your squadmates are currently assigned to the target. On an allied target, these dots indicate wingmates guarding the target ship. On a hostile target, dots indicate wingmates that are attacking this target.

In the lower-left of the screen is the Target Information Box. This gives you vital details on the stats of a targeted ship. This information includes:

- a visual representation of the target, showing its orientation relative to your ship.

- the ship's hull strength, shown both as a percentage and as a bar graph on the right side of the box.

- if the target has shields, then a diagram showing their shield quadrants and each one's relative strength will be displayed.

- the target ship's distance, and speed

- docking status, whether the target is attached to or hauling something else (for example, a cargo container or a transport).

If the target is an allied ship, then you will receive additional information, namely its current orders and estimated time to completion (if applicable). When you select a turret or sub-system of the target, then additional information is shown: the name of the selected subtarget and its strength.

In the case of both the target information box and the target bracket, your current subtarget will be shown as a second set of brackets. If the subtarget is visible to you, then its bracket will be a square. Otherwise, it will be a diamond with an X in it. Be aware that sometimes this may be innacurate. If it looks like the subtarget should be in view but the computer says it isn't, you may still hit it.

Background
The 134th is called to test the expirimental TAG system, which the GTVA hopes will give them an advantage against the Shivans. The GTCv Warspite provides fighter cover.
Walkthrough
This is the blunder of space simulator history of all time. You have to fly an GTF Ulysses with one GTW Subach HL-7 and one GTW Prometheus R. You also have a new kind of missile in your secondary bank. It is the GTM TAG-A missile, which is used to acquire target lock on hostile fighters so a nearby warship can open fire at it from a longer distance.<br><br>
The first squadron of fighters you find are SF Basilisk fighters. They are not so hard to hit, but a squadron of SF Maras come next. These fighters are far more maneuverable and much smaller. TAG them all the way. Try to get as close to them as possible to severly increase your chance of hit. No certain advice can be given here, you have to be an accurate pilot to take down the Maras.<br><br>
Next, the Warspite (GTCv Deimos-class) gets in trouble! The Shivans attack it, but since you are not properly armed to face those fighters directly, you have to TAG hostile bombers to let the corvette target them. It is worth to rearm even in the middle of dogfight, you have need for any TAG missile you can fire.
*Freespace 2

The largest space-faring warship ever constructed by Terrans or Vasudans, the GTVA Colossus was the result of twenty years of joint effort from dozens of contractors from across the Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance. Logging in with a length of six-kilometers, this behemoth was equipped with over eighty weapon turrets, in addition to over 240 combat spacecraft.

With the offensive power that exceeded most GTVA battlegroups, the Colossus was designed to combat the Shivans upon their return to Allied territory. The prospective target was one or more Lucifer-class super-destroyers, and it was deemed that the Colossus would not only have the firepower not only to destroy such a foe, but also to survive multiple hits from a Lucifers primary weapon system.

History
The first combat use of the Colossus was against the Neo-Terran Front. NTF forces proved to be no match for the Colossus and her battlegroup, and the rebels made every effort to avoid direct combat with the juggernaut. It can be truthfully said that it was the Colossus that was the ultimate factor in the NTF's collapse. With his fleet shattered, and the remnants being actively pursued and destroyed by the Colossus, Admiral Aken Bosch gave the order to flee GTVA space to the relative safety of the nebula beyond Gamma Draconis.

With the NTF defeated, the Colossus was finally to fulfil the role her designers had envisioned for her: the defeat of a Shivan incursion. However, as it turned out, the challenge was not to be SD Lucifer-class superdestroyers, but rather a SJ Sathanas-class juggernaut. Twenty years of constant struggle finally culminated with the Colossuss destruction of the Sathanas, all at the cost of moderate damage to the Colossus.

All would have been well was it not for the Shivans possessing multiple juggernauts. In the closing stages of the Battle of Capella, the Colossus was deployed to interdict Shivan traffic at the Gamma Draconis jump node in Capella to divert enemy forces and attention away from the Bastion, which was en route to collapse the jump corridor to Epsilon Pegasi. The ploy succeeded, as the Shivans first deployed a SD Ravana, then a SJ Sathanas to engage the Colossus. In her weakened state, it was obvious that the Colossus would not survive an engagement with another Sathanas-class juggernaut, and Allied Command ordered the Colossus to withdraw.

However, with the success of the Bastions critical mission in doubt, the Colossus disobeyed the direct order from Allied Command, and refused to disengage. Subsequently, the Colossus was destroyed with the loss of all hands. The thirty-thousand officers and crew of the Colossus willingly sacrificed themselves to ensure the continued survival of the billions of individuals making up the Terran and Vasudan species, and ultimately, the
Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance.
Narrator: The following is classified level Rho. Unauthorized access is punishable under the GTVA security act, Deneb convention, section 21.3.5. We vanquished the Shivans in the Great War but the hard questions remained. How would we confront the threat of future invasion? The Shivans might return at any time, any place, without warning. How would we fight the next threat to the very existence of our species? In 2345, on the tenth anniversary of the Shivan attack on Ross 128, the Vasudan emperor Khonsu II addressed the newly-formed GTVA General Assembly. The emperor inaugurated an ambitious and unprecedented joint endeavor: The GTVA Colossus.

Khonsu II: Together we built a civilization on the ruins of the Great War, and now we stand on the threshold of a new era of prosperity and harmony. With Project Colossus, the Vasudan people celebrate our shared covenant of peaceful co-existence and mutual defense of our Terran allies.

Narrator: The Colossus is the most powerful space faring warship ever constructed. Spanning six kilometers from bow to stern, the Colossus has taken over twenty years to complete. Twelve Lucifer-class destroyers can fit within its massive hull. Its state-of-the-art weaponry includes forty-five laser turrets, fifteen flak guns, twelve missile batteries, and twelve beam cannons. The Colossus wields more firepower than five Orion-class destroyers combined. Sixty fighter and bomber wings are housed in its vast hangar and its crew numbers over thirty thousand. Among its contractors are industry giants Triton Dynamics, Subach-Innes, and the Akheton Corporation. The alliance now wages war on multiple fronts: in Deneb, Alpha Centuri, Epsilon Pegasi, and the mysterious nebula beyond Gamma Draconis. Once deployed the Colossus will end these conflicts swiftly and decisively. If ever the Shivans return to threaten our worlds we will be ready to face the challenge, securing peace for today and for generations to come.
Description:
FS2 Tech Room Description
The GTVA Colossus resulted from an endeavor unprecedented in Terran or Vasudan history. This 6-kilometer-long behemoth is the result of 20 years of joint effort from dozens of contractors of both races. The Colossus is the most powerful space-faring warship ever made, bristling with over 80 weapon turrets. It also houses 60 fighter and bomber wings and requires a crew of over 30,000. The firepower of the Colossus is greater than that of most GTVA battle groups.

Developer Notes
None

Veteran Comments
The GTVA Colossus was an excellent warship, eqipped perfectly for the job it was designed for. While engaging the NTF hordes, we always knew the battle was over when the Colossus entered the fray. The Colossus' demise was one of the bravest sacrifices ever made by a ship in the GTVA. It remained in front of a Sathanas juggernaut, even though it had no chance of surviving, so that the Bastion might reach the Epsilon Pegasi node.

The Colossus is really out of its league against the Sathanas, but it was never designed for killing juggernauts. The Colossus' proper role is hunting and killing destroyers, a task at which it excels. It would take a very large number of smaller ships to threaten the Colossus; witness its single-handed destruction of the NTF.

The GTVA Colossus is not that great at killing ships of equal size of it as the above veterans have said. The placement of its main beam turrets are all over the ship, meaning that maximum firepower cannot be directed against heavier ships. However this does also have its advantages. It means that no capital ship can be in a safe spot from it. It is also loaded with massive amounts of anti-fighter and bomber weaponry, making it a nightmare to attack. These anti-fighter weaponry are also located around the main beams of the warship, making it more difficult to disable.

The Colossus is a superb ship in my opinion. It's weapon placement ensures no capship or fighter can attack it and stay safe. While not designed to confront ships like the Sathanas, if properly positioned it can take them on and emerge victorious. Its real strength lies in its anti-fighter weaponry and is a killer machine when confronting smaller warships.<br><br>

Some major events that Alpha 1 has been in:
* Help evacuate Capella (Freespace 2)
* Destroyed the Lucifer (Freespace 1)
* Destroyed the Hades (Silent threat)
* Weakens the first SJ Sathanas, so the GTVA Colossus was able to defeat it.
