The GTW-5 Prometheus (standard) Cannon is one of the best-known weapons of the Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance. Originally developed during the first Great War, it was temporarily retired due to shortages of critical materials. With the development of gas-mining vessels to extract these materials from nebular clouds, this popular design has been recommissioned.

The Prometheus S is an excellent weapon, boasting high hull damage, high shield damage, and very good range. Almost every fighter and bomber in the Terran and Vasudan catalogs mount this gun. Disadvantages include a moderate-to-high energy usage, and a relatively slow rate of fire that requires patience and marksmanship to line up shots.

Tech Room Data
The original GTW-5 Prometheus S was removed from service when the link to Earth was lost and the GTVA was unable to obtain sufficient quantities of argon (a required element in the Prometheus's power-generation module). Recent deployment of Anuket and Zephyrus gas miners has enabled us to resume production of the GTW-5 Prometheus S. The S-type is a minor variant of the original Prometheus laser cannon. The S-type's faster recharge cycle and lower energy drain cause many pilots to prefer it over the R variant.
Veteran Comments
{{Comment|For some reason (probably balancing) many of the original Prometheus' stats were changed for FS2, making it a weaker weapon in many respects.

There is much debate on which GTW-5 is better the Prometheus S or the GTW Prometheus, it is up to the user to decide. The Prometheus S has lower energy requirements, longer range, and more single hit damage than the GTW UD-8 Kayser, but consumes much more energy, has a slower firing rate, and is less efficient than the other standard FreeSpace 2 weapon, the GTW Subach HL-7. If you like firing very accurately, and don't care about fire rate as much, this is the perfect gun for you.

Ideal targets for the Prometheus are larger vessels, such as bombers, cruisers and corvettes. It does a great deal of hull damage. But because of its full shield damage value, it is extremely effective against bombers. As another note, the Prometheus of FS2 acts more like the Banshee of FS1, though with considerably better damage against hulls and lesser damage against shields.

Fires farther and faster, hits harder and penetrates shields better than the FS1 version, but pays with a slightly lower fire rate and greater energy consumption; in fact about all this and the GTW Prometheus have in common is superiority to the GTW Prometheus R.

One of the things I dislike about all Prometheus weapons is that they fire at a very slow rate. Even if I were given the option to use this over a Subach or a Mekhu in a stealth fighter, I'd rather use them than this.

Its projectile speed is the fastest and longest lasting (thus extending its range) after the Maxim and the Morning Star. The higher speed increases accuracy for the same shooting distance (obviously!) against maneuvering targets. This weapon is in fact perfect for taking down Shivan bombers.

It's worth noting that, if you outfit both primary banks of an Erinyes with this thing, it is entirely possible to one-hit-kill some of the lighter fighters in the game. If you're the kind of pilot who discerningly picks his shots, this is the weapon for you.}}
FS1 Tech Room Description
The new Seraphim class bomber is the Shivan's latest threat. It is three times larger than a Nephilim, and carries a massive payload at least 150% the size of the Nephilim. With strong hulls and almost impenetrable shield system, the Seraphim is easily the most dangerous bomber we have yet encountered.

The Seraphim has been designated a Class A threat to GTA destroyers and cruisers. In unpopulated systems, it is to be considered a Class B threat.

FS2 Tech Room Description
The SB Seraphim is a familiar foe to GTVA forces. They appear to be similar to Nephilims in speed, armor, and shield strength, but have demonstrated a larger bomb capacity.
{{comment|Kill it and kill it now! The Seraphim poses too great a danger to friendly capital craft to be allowed to live. If any Shivan bomber in a mission is going to be carrying high-yield bombs like the Helios, the odds are very good it's going to be a Seraphim. Even if they aren't, the Seraphim has enough capacity in its secondary banks to do serious damage to anything short of a juggernaut. Seraphim should be the number-one priority for any interceptor pilot.

This Shivan equivalent of the Ursa, or Sekhmet is tough and deadly, and a serious threat to everything ranging from cruisers to superdestroyers.

Try flying this. It is surprisingly fast and maneuverable. Gunpoints are lousy though, being unable to hit anything smaller than a cruiser, and even then you can miss.

The Seraphim is an intercept pilot's worst nightmare in FreeSpace and FreeSpace 2. Even a direct hit from two Trebuchets would only scratch its paint! Even worse are its gun mounts! They're everywhere! If you encounter any of these, try to fire four Trebuchets at long range. If you can't do that (or you don't have any), close in upon it at two clicks, augment your front shield and start firing like crazy. You'll probably get hit a few times before it goes down.

Extremely strong, rather fast (though it lacks an afterburner), lots of gun points, and can carry lots of warheads. Don't go head to head with it or you will die. Take it out at long range with Trebuchets and Maxims, or get behind it and unload your primaries and Tempests.

An alternate way of killing Seraphims quickly is to concentrate your fire on one quarter, brining down its shields rather quickly. Then scrap its hull to tiny pieces. This tactic is applicable to other bomber types, too, but the heavier the bomber the more viable this strategy is.

This is a terrifying bomber to be sure. I once made the mistake of flying in front of one... That didn't end well. It carries an obscene number of bombs, has a ridiculous amount of shielding, and its hull isn't exactly flimsy, either. Luckily, this thing's the size of a small mansion, so missing it is virtually impossible.}}
{{Comment|
The Myrmidon is not the uberfighter tech room makes it out to be. It's actually slower than the GTF Ulysses on afterburner, and what they don't tell you about those three secondary banks is that the first two are very small. It can't carry the signature dogfighter's missile, the GTM Harpoon, but it can make use of all three of the primary dogfighting cannon: GTW Subach HL-7, GTW Prometheus S, and GTW UD-8 Kayser.

It does, however, have a problem in the primaries department. While the Myrmidon actually has six guns, granting it some serious firepower, their configuration is sub-optimal for dogfighting and hitting with the upper four guns requires some ignoring of the "Aim Here" aid. As an aside/general oddity, the Myrmidon is actually capable of carrying the GTM Helios bomb. It has enough space for four of them, giving it a considerable threat to poorly defended capital ships.

This class of fighter is ideal for those who prefer balance between firepower, strength and agility. The secondary weapon capacity equals with the Perseus with some compatibility differences. While the Myrmidon is unable to carry the Harpoon, the player needs to be better with primaries than secondaries. The six primary guns will help players with these preferences. The first and the second bank are ideally armed with GTM Tornadoes and the third with GTM Tempests. The second bank is not the best with Tempest because of the location of the firing points. Players might prefer this fighter for tactical runs as it is compatible with the GTW Akheton SDG anti-subsystem cannon. If you arm it to the first primary bank, you still have the second bank, which has four firing points to arm with the GTW Prometheus S.

The Myrmidon is actually a reasonably capable fighter, its only really important flaw is the lack of GTM Harpoon capability.

The Myrmidon sounds good on paper, but in the field, the Myrmidon is one of the worst fighters in the game. It may be fast, but its maneuverability is closer to that of a bomber than a fighter, worse by far than the Ulysses or even the Apollo. Its primaries are placed poorly for dogfighting, especially the top four, which are the ones you would normally be relying on in a six-gun ship anyway. The missile bank capacity is average at best, and it does not carry the GTM Harpoon, a fatal mistake for a dogfighter. Its target profile is absolutely enormous from any angle, and its huge engines shout "I'M RIGHT HERE! SHOOT ME!". My best guess for the optimal role of this ship is as a fast-attack fighter. Load it up with GTM Tornadoes, crank the engine power, and unleash flaming death on freighters, transports, gas miners, and other weak ships, and then get away fast before the escorts swarm you (let's leave aside the mysteriously present Helios capability, which is tantamount to cheating). Once you get the Perseus, you will never fly the Myrmidon again, except in the SOC loop where you must fly it.

The Myrmidon is an excellent fighter, people just think of it as the successor of the GTF Ulysses which it isn't, really. This fighter is much more in the vein of the GTF Apollo. It's maneuverability isn't really that bad, and those six primary shots will chew through anything very quickly. These fighters are more adaptable than the GTF Perseus, with three missile slots rather than two this fighter can carry a more varied load out, and changes to the ETS system of this ship dramatically change its abilities. If you need to defend a corvette, than attack a cruiser, then maybe take out some turrets on a Hecate, and maybe dogfight a few Dragons this ship will serve well, if you were just planning on doing any one of those things, there's probably a better fighter for the job.

A useful strike bomber. A wing of Myrmidons equipped with Helios torpedoes will pose a fearsome threat to any ship beneath destroyer class. It's secondary gun bank of 4 guns gives it a dangerous edge in dogfights.

Though the Myrmidon can carry 4 Helios torpedoes, the two are never issued together in any single player missions, making the Myrmidon useless as a strike bomber in the main campaign. But in user-made campaigns or multiplayer missions, the Myrmidon is capable of blowing up any destroyer easily. Other than that, it has 6 guns which would have made it excellently suited to dogfighting, if it had carried the Harpoon. But since it doesn't, other fighters are better suited.

Although it lacks the Harpoon, it more than makes up for this with its lack of other major flaws and its compatibility with A.) the Kayser and B.) the Trebuchet. With a quad-kayser bank you can pretty much shred things in knife-fight range anyway, so the Harpoon doesn't cause too much of a heartache. Even with Subachs, this thing can hit hard. I think the reason they left out the harpoons is that maybe would have made it *TOO* good.}}
As the slowest fighter in the PVN, the Seth has earned itself a reputation as the Turtle of the Vasudan fleet. Even though it is quite compact in size, the Seth can carry a massive payload, and has a lot of shielding. Its standard impulse engines aren't very powerful, but the Seth gains an incredible speed boost when using its afterburners. The Seth is primarily used is convoy attacks and capital ship escort duties.

The solidly built GVF Seth is a versatile Great War-era fighter that still performs dual roles as bomber escort and bomber interceptor. The Seth's relatively slow cruising speed is deceptive, as its Mekhu-Sahr plasma powerplant can give it an incredible afterburner boost, more than doubling its velocity. A total of six weapon banks and a wide variety of loadouts give the Seth the needed punch to eliminate incoming bombers quickly.
The Seth doesn't have the moxie to match up to the Hercules in the assault role, yet it is faster and manuvers better. Most closely comparable to the GTF Apollo, it is probably best considered a "light assault" fighter, not quite having the speed and manuverabilty to qualify as a space superiority fighter, yet not having the weapons load or staying power to make it a true heavy assault fighter.

One of the most balanced and, dare I say it, sexiest fighters. Guns are well placed and speed is equivalent to the Herc II with a powerful afterburner boost. The heavy armour and shielding (not to mention the teeny silhouette from behind) makes it a difficult kill as well. It's really equivalent to or better than a Herc II except in secondary bank capacity.

Before I started using the Tauret, I used this. It was such a joy to fly, what with that afterburner power and all. The only thing that really doesn't seem to match up is its missile bank capacity, but given that this was made in 2335 and not 2367, that's okay. Although I may have switched to using the Tauret more nowadays, I still use the Seth here and there.

The Seth is just a great ship. It can go toe-to-toe with a cruiser if need be, it's capable of defending itself from anything short of a Dragon, and its weapons aren't placed far apart, like they are in the Horus. Even better, because of its crazy awesome afterburners, you can max engine power and do a half-decent job of flying intercept with it. A very well-rounded fighter that fills a gap between Space Superiority and Heavy Assault.}}

The GTF Pegasus is encountered in several missions, the first being Proving Grounds. It is specifically designed for reconnaissance and stealth missions, as such it has a high top speed, a small target profile, and a weak hull. It's statistically identical to its Vasudan equivalent, the GVF Ptah, but has a different target profile and visibility properties.
Description:
FS2 Tech Room Description
The Pegasus is used almost exclusively for reconnaissance missions. It's the fastest, most maneuverable ship in the Terran arsenal. The craft's contours and hull materials were carefully designed to minimize its profile to detection sensors. It is woefully armored and packs only minimal weaponry, making it a death box in a firefight. Pegasus pilots are a special breed of daredevils who pride themselves on getting into and out of situations that would be the death of other pilots, all without firing a shot.
Pegasus - a stealth fighter. It's available only in Endgame, so most players won't fly it.

Besides that, it's a very nice fighter to pilot. It has only one gun mount, and a small secondary bank, but it's advantages are more than outweigh this. It's very maneuverable, so flying it is a dream, and it's invisible to radars. That means nobody can target you (unless there's enemy AWACS nearby), warheads immediately loose lock on you, while enemy fighters and capship's turrets can only shoot at you if they see you. But even this isn't easy, because it's color and shape make it hard to see at distances beyond 500 metres.

Quite a fighter, but it is rather disconcertingly fragile. The incredibly small profile helps counter this somewhat, as well as the stealth ability. In addition, the colour scheme makes it difficult to see in space or in nebular environments, unlike the Ptah. It possesses superb maneuverability and a high speed, but has only one primary weapons bank and a small solitary secondary rack, meaning that it cannot accomplish anything beyond what you equip it for. In those few missions where you get to use it, try it out. But I'd say that other craft would do it more efficiently.

The Pegasus, while amazing for it's small target profile, speed, and almost complete radar invisibility, isn't really that impressive against skilled pilots. When pitted up against a group of these for training, a decent pilot in a Herc2 can call a beat on at least one of these at a time, even hitting it with dumbfire missles. Granted though, the maneuverability is great, and it is fun to fly, in almost all situations, something with more armor and weapons will probably fit the bill better.

When I first saw the tech description for the Pegasus, I got turned off completely. Who in their right mind would fly this? I held that point of view until I tried flying it for myself. Only then did I regret that the FreeSpace 2 team never made more missions involving this fighter. This has become one of my favorite fighters in the game because of its speed and agility. It may have a thin hull, small secondary bank and only two gun banks, but there are always enough Subachs and Tempests to pass around and the agility of this fighter is quite a boon to circumvent thin shields and hull. Indeed, this fighter also forced me to use these two weapons if I wanted to evade or speed up resupplying on the battlefield. Ever since, I've started using these weapons more efficiently and frequently than I did before I came across this plate of metal. My only word of warning is this: don't attempt to attack anything beyond bomber-class in this, otherwise you'll end up dead...like one of my wingmen who tried to take down a Deimos-class corvette in this.

The Pegasus is one of those fighters that's only as good as the person behind the wheel. I once played a game against a pilot who used (and abused) the razor-thin profile of this thing and kept flying between my lasers. Very effective, but also very complicated to pull off. Unless you're packing a Morning Star, it's supremely irritating to take down. It also makes a decent interceptor, although with its rather flimsy hull and tiny secondary capacity its longevity on the battlefield is questionable. One thing is absolutely certain, though - this thing is an absolute dream to fly. Not the most accessible of fighters, but if you put in the effort, you are rewarded.}}
