"It's no doubt that the GVC Somtus is one of the strangest Vasudan cruisers of all time. This design is very different from the GVC Mentu, the primary role of this ship is to inflict heavy damages to capital ships with its huge beam turret on the top of the ship. For a cruiser of that size, it is wonder that it can mount a big Vasudan beam cannon, that turret couldn't be kept operational without sufficient power. The main beam accumulates power from the primary reactor, which its only task is to provide the beam turret with power, enabling the main turret to be operational at any time. The Somtus is a deadly opponent for all cruisers of its size and even larger capital ships. Multiple vessels of this cruisers class are enough to take down even a destroyer without losses suffered. Given the power output the main generator of this cruiser can produce, the main beam cannon can be fired more quickly than normal. Against fighters, it is moderately defended with 3 flak guns as defense, which only provides resistance to a minimal number of fighters. The hull plating of this ship is relatively weak of its size, but it can survive several salvoes of beam cannons and heavy bombs. It was first introduced while escorting the GTD Washington in the Beta Aquilae system. One of the Terran pilots who first saw the Somtus reported: 'The new Vasudan cruiser is like a turtle, just with a massive beam cannon on its nose."
