All information related to the AB Satyr is non-canon.
Back to User-made Ships

The AB Satyr is a massive (wingspan 125 metres) Ancient bomber, originally created by Bobboau for his failed campaign Dark Breed it was latter picked up by Inferno. A high-poly version was made by the Ancient-Shivan War mod. In Blue Planet, it is recoloured to serve as the Vishnan Protector.

The original Satyr, as seen in INFR1.
Freespaceking's HTL Satyr.
the Vishnan Protector in BP.

Description:

INFR1 Tech Room Description

The Satyr is so heavily armored a ship that it requires no shields at all. Even larger than the Shivans' Vindhyachal, this obscenely sized bomber even has its own beam cannon to engage capital ships with. An anti-hull weapon combined with the ACM should be used to take advantage of its total lack of shielding.

ASW Tech Room Description

The Satyr heavy bomber is the latest in a series of vessels conceived especially to counter the Shivan threat. The largest bomber currently in service, it not only has a larger missile capacity than both the Attis and the Zakros, but it also has a specially adapted Cannon mounted in a turret below it. As such, it has the firepower to destroy even a Shivan destroyer, while being manoeuvrable anough to profit from the Shivans' weak anti-bomber defences.

The first detachment of these bombers is currently stationed on the Akrotiri, for combat evaluation purposes. Only the most experienced pilots are allowed to fly the Satyr. Given their low agility, these bombers shouls (sic) always be accompanied by a fighter detachment to guard them from hostile interceptors.

BP Tech Room Description (Vishnan Protector)

It is surmised that these vessels occupy a tactical role between the larger bomber classes and cruisers. Deployments have seen them as fleet escorts for Vishnan ships, but they do not undertake strikecraft operations.

The sheer amount of damage this thing can take (while having a relatively high top speed and manoeuvrability) makes the Satyr the most annoying ship ever, besides maybe the Vindhyachal. In INFR1, it always helps to have a few A.C.R.s handy to destroy it, since primary cannons and even some missiles will do very little damage to it.

Beam cannon is easily amputated regardless of the ship's obscene durability.

The Vishnan Protector in BP is actually employed as a sort of gunboat rather than a bomber. It retains the 4 turrets of the original but eschews all the primaries and secondaries and is table-flagged as a cruiser.

Note that the entire bottom part is actually a huge multipart turret with a wide (220°) field of fire. The pof uses an invisible box around the base for collision detection purposes.
