Derek Smart is a game developer who considered buying the FreeSpace licence from Interplay by the goal of making FreeSpace 3. The news about his interest in the licence struck the FreeSpace community, he met opposition and received no support. He defended himself against these attacks and claimed that he was not interested in the opinion of the community. Mentioning his name on the unofficial FreeSpace fan site of [Hard Light productions] is now considered a sin and all threads about him are being closed.
