The EA Tiger

Description:

Tech Room Description

No fighter in the Earth Alliance is more closely associated with the Dilgar war than the EA Tiger. A revolutionary design for its period, it was the first fighter in Earth Force Service that could outmaneuver the Centauri Sentri. Even at the time of the EA's entry in the Dilgar conflict, the Tiger design was considered on the old side and approaching withdrawl from front line squadrons. However, its exceptional all-around performance made it perfectly suited to fighting the Dilgar and it remained in both service and production until the end of the war. At this point it was replaced by the Nova class Starfury, which is of the same evolutionary design as the modern Aurora. The Nova had been about to enter service with the Earth Alliance and begin replacing the Tiger, at about the same time the war began. The fact that the Tiger remained in such heavy deployment is a testament to the robustness and ballance in its design. The only surviving Tigers however, are relegated to moth-balls, military junk yards, and museums. One of the Tiger's main assets was the 27mm railgun turret mounted under the cockpit, which allowed pilots to make a pass over an enemy capital ship at full throttle, allowing the railgun to damage the target's hull armor without re-orienting the fighter itself. It could also mount 8 missiles of various types.

I like this fighter for strafing runs on capital ships. Its railgun turret is capable of covering a wide arc. Only the 33mm pulse cannon is somewhat underpowered.
