The Earth was the homeworld of the Terrans up until 2335.

History

By the end of the 21st centaury, Earth became endlessly polluted and the natural resources have been depleted. Thankfully to advanced technology, humanity was allowed to leave their homeworld and begin expanding their empire to planets outside the Earth.

Because of the largest part of the indrustry was moved to space stations and colonies, the environment of the Earth slightly recovered, inspiring the Terrans to make efforts to save their homeworld from destruction. The previously polluting technologies have been made more environment friendly and the atmosphere was purified of poisonious gases.

In the long run, the population of the Earth dwindled, again decreasing the level of air pollution and the needed resources to be mined out. After discovering subspace, the humans were able to mine from other planets and export the resources to Earth.

In the Terran-Vasudan War, the Earth and the Sol system took a major role. A large part of the GTA's factories and shipyards were orbiting around the Earth or other planets in the Sol system.
The Earth was also known to be the headquarters of the Galactic Terran Alliance.

  • FreeSpace 1

The year 2335 brought a major change in Terran history: The Sol system was sealed off by the destruction of the SD Lucifer in subspace. After the second Great War, the Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance might use the data they gathered from the Knossos device to rebuild a Terran portal and restore contact with Earth, and the Sol system.
There is no canon information about a return to the Sol system.
