SILENT THREAT: REBORN MISSION 13

Fighter squadron: 82nd Nighthawks

Description: The GTA conducts a surprise attack on a secret shipyard in Delta Serpentis.

Background

GTI's Research and Development has declared a total state of war with the Alliance. They are currently pulling away from active combat zones and meeting at rallying points near Beta Aquilae and Delta Serpentis.

With Intelligence units from the GTD Soyakaze able to locate GTI's Research and Development Admiral Marcus Glaive and the GTD Repulse, a GTA strike team comes in to hopefully to dig up some of the dirtier secrets of the GTI...

Walkthrough

You have Alpha Wing (4 bombers of your own choosing, default Zeus), with Delta and Epsilon of Valkyries as support (armed with the Disruptor, Prometheus and MX-50s), and Zeta of Valkyries as reinforcements on standby.

The default loadout is sufficient to complete the mission. Another recommended ship is the GTB Athena (you get 10 Phoenix V missiles and 10 Stilettos as opposed to the Zeus's 5 and 10, but cannot use the Prometheus). You need heavy subsystem destruction power at a certain point. Fly intercept or heavy assault at your own risk.

Ideally, you can start the mission two ways: wait for the dialogue, start slowly, then go to burn all the way when friendly forces start engaging, or just rush in and attract the Loki fighters. If you want to avoid getting shot up too early, go with the first option.

You need to be very quick to disable the Repulse, else it'll jump out, failing the mission. Use the Phoenix missiles first, then the Stilettos. Request a support ship even before you run out of your Stilettos, then continue pounding the Repulse's engines. As soon as you're done with the engines, go for the Lokis. If you ignore them, they'll backstab and kill you more quickly than you're used to—they're armed with the Prometheus. Your wingmen can take care of the turrets.

The integrity of the Repulse's engine subsystem varies between 50 and 75%. It can help to keep restarting until the subsystem strength is at the lower end of this spectrum.

Lambda 1 will arrive on the scene with a boarding party, then they will get destroyed by another transport and Hercules fighters, clear them out and then Lambda 2 will arrive on the scene. Defend Lambda 2 until they board, after that, clear out any stragglers, then Theta wing, the GTC Lone Wolf, and four additional troop transports will arrive on the scene. After they arrive, you can return to base.

Developer Commentary

The GTI Polaris pylons are an old FS1-era mod refreshed for FSPort. The shipyard was recently occupied by the Hades, as seen in the Silent Threat: Reborn teaser trailer.

It's a lot of fun to punish arrogant players. "I'm Alpha One, I don't need to wait, I'm going to charge ahead and disable the Repulse all by myself!" Nope, not happening. Pay attention.

GTC Lone Wolf from the campaigns Derelict and Hellgate Ikeya makes a cameo appearance.

The voice actor of the GTC Lone Wolf was specifically instructed to use a "hayseed" accent, in honor of the mission Welcome to the Boonies. The original voice acting for that mission (prior to the effort led by Blaise Russel) used redneck/backwoods accents to give the mission even more of a "boonies" flavor. I highly recommend listening to it if you get the chance.

The GTC Lone Wolf is called the GTC Lonewolf in Derelict. The real-world reason is that, being a stickler for detail, I wanted to fix the spelling. For the in-universe reason, you could argue that the "actual spelling" is as it is in ST:R, and Derelict merely misrepresents it; or you could argue that the ship maintainers got more and more lazy over the course of 30 years.
