The GTC Fenris

GTC Fenris cruisers were the predecessors of the GTC Leviathan-class of cruisers and were primarily used during the 14-Year War and the Great War. However, many were equipped with beam technology and saw engagement during the Second Shivan Incursion. Fenris cruisers equal the GVC Aten in terms of efficiency; however, the Aten was not equipped with modern beam and flak technology after the Great War's conclusion. The GTC Orff and the NTC Trinity were two notable Fenris cruisers.

The Neo-Terran Front used a number of Fenris cruisers mainly to neutralize GTVA fighter craft. Most of these cruisers were destroyed during the rebellion.

Description:

FS1 Tech Room Description

The mainstay of the Terran Fleet, these vessels have served in both strike and defense purposes. From nose to tail it measures 260 meters. With a full array of weapon systems and a strong enough hull to withstand the strongest enemy warheads, a Fenris Cruiser can be found in almost any system that the GTA is operating in. The Fenris cruiser was originally designed as a strike weapon, hence its fast speed and decent turning rate. It was later decided that a second line of cruisers would be produced, for defensive purposes, once it became apparent that the V-T war wouldn't be over in a few months.

FS2 Tech Room Description

The GTC Fenris class is the aging stalwart among the Alliance's warships. Before the Great War, the Fenris was Terran Command's only class of cruisers. During the war, Terran Command decided to build a second line of cruisers, the Leviathans, to free the Fenris from escort and guard duties. Fenris cruisers have fought in virtually every theatre of operation. These fast, versatile cruisers pack enough punch in their 260-meter-long hulls to go toe-to-toe with any enemy cruiser. The Fenris's speed and maneuverability make it a good choice for strike missions.

The Fenris-class cruisers are, along with the Vasudan Aten, the aging stalwarts amongst the Alliance's warships. Although fast, the Fenris is somewhat lacking in protection. It's only real defences are the two AAA turrets in it's rear, which have a limited feild of fire. A couple of wings of GTF Myrmidons, can decimate one of these cruisers very quickly, and it would only take five cyclops torpedos to destroy it. In anti-capital work it's average for a cruiser, it can provide fire support for a corvette or destroyer, but can't really attack anything bigger than itself.

It was because of the Fenris cruiser's vulnerability that shortly after the Great War, there was a move to remove the Fenrises from front line duty, and ultimately, from service altogether. However, with the loss of Sol and its shipyards, it was realized that it would be easier for the smaller colonial facilities to produce Fenrises and Leviathans. As the objective was to replenish the depleted fleet, the Fenris was given a second lease of life, although it was not intended for the Fenris to take part in front line action ever again. The advent of plasma beam technology changed everything, and the current variation of the Fenris was born. The cycle of the Fenris has come full circle. The Fenris is again fulfilling the role it was designed for, conducting strike missions against enemy ships and positions, in addition to providing point defence for larger warships against hostile fighters and bombers.

Best way to tackle this ship is from the bottom fore. Only the missiles, and a laser turret to deal with. Never approach from the side or the rear, the AAA beams will chew you up.

Although it is twice as fast as the Leviathan, the Fenris is not as good as its big brother. Don't waste your Cyclops (or even Helios) to this ship, a bank of Hornets or primaries will do the job just as well. The LTerSlash beam is completly useless against other capital ships, but it gives the Fenris a chance to stand against freighters and transports, at least.

It should also be noted that the LTerSlash can glance off the ship you're protecting and smack you up. Watch this during Into the Maelstrom and Feint! Parry! Reposte!

For its size and age, it carries a respectable amount of firepower, especially in comparison to the other basic cruisers like the Aten and the Cain. Approach it from the front and if you have another ship you're escorting nearby, take out the LTerSlash beam. It may be one of the worst beams in game, but it will still save you alot of trouble especially if you have weaker vessels such as transports or freighters around.
