GTCv Chimera

Description:

BP:AoA Tech Room Description

The main escort vessel of the Alliance fleet, Chimera-class multi-role corvettes fill the role of anti-ship combat and destroyer escort admirably. Three anti-capital ship beams and several short-ranged turrets provide significant firepower with a surplus of reactor energy to provide an appreciable boost in speed. Chimera corvettes are a welcome addition to GTVA forces.

Name Origin

Chimera (Χίμαιρα) was a monster with the body of a lioness with a goat head rising from her back, a tail that ended in a serpent head. The child of Typhon and Echidna, she was the sibling of the Cerberus and the Hydra. From the Illiad "a thing of immortal make, not human, lion-fronted and snake behind, a goat in the middle, and snorting out the breath of the terrible flame of bright fire."

Very powerful, but its armor is very weak and barely survive a substained assult. More like a smaller Terran version of the Ravana.

Despite the fact that it is stated within War in Heaven to be an assault corvette, and is clearly designed more for shock jumping and massive forward firepower, the Chimera actually has a remarkably good fighter screen. Just the number of AAA beams on this warship is staggering, and the STerPulse turrets are actually very effective at closer range. They don't really need a lot of escort, and as the Serker group demonstrates, they're more than a match for just about anything the UEF has. If you need to figure out a way to attack them, try attacking directly fore or aft.
