Description:

The Ammit includes two table files: Ammit-shp is a bomber, and AmmitFighter-shp is an interceptor. Copy the entry of whichever one you're using to your ships-tbm, and delete/ignore the other one.

The Ammit comes with the GVM Khepri anti-capital dumbfire rocket.

Bomber-Variant Tech Room Description

The Mekhu Enterprises GVB Ammit strike bomber is a product of quality Vasudan engineering, incorporating efficiently-integrated Terran dual engines. The Ammit was designed as a high-speed dive-bomber, capable of making high-speed passes on enemy capital ships and withdrawing before enemy interceptors could destroy it. It mounts two small secondary bays, which are sufficient for its hit-and-run strike role. It also mounts a single four-gun primary bank, usually equipped with the GTW-66 Maxim for extra anti-capital firepower, or the GTW UD-8 Kayser for anti-fighter defense. Its top speed is exceptional for a bomber, and it has enough maneuverability to dogfight in an emergency. Its armor and shielding are enough to survive attack runs, but not enough to withstand sustained interceptor or AAA fire. Standard doctrine calls for Ammit squadrons to be deployed in hit-and-run strikes against hostile capital ships, but Ammits can be used as Trebuchet artillery platforms, or even as superiority or intercept fighters in an emergency.

The Ammit was designed as a replacement for the Capella-era GVB Bakha strike bomber. As the Bakha had posted an unimpressive combat record during the NTF Rebellion and Second Incursion, when Vasudan naval planners after Capella were prioritizing new strikecraft designs, the Imperial Office of Naval Production asked for a new medium bomber design in their first batch of post-Capella naval contracts in 2370. This new bomber had to be fast and light, like the Bakha, but more cost-effective and less vulnerable to hostile AAA and interceptors. Mekhu Enterprises, makers of the successful Sekhmet heavy bomber, put their best design teams to work on a new kind of light bomber, which could evade enemy interceptors and AAA by sheer speed.

The Ammit required a powerful engine, capable of outracing any known interceptor. Experiments with a variant of the Mekhu-Sahr 78-B engine used on the GVF Seth failed when engine prototypes kept exploding due to oversized, unstable plasma feed systems. Mekhu, in a bold design move, subcontracted its engine design to Han-Ronald Corporation, the Terran firm which had designed the GTB Artemis. Eventually, after numerous revisions to both the engine and the Ammit's internal structure, Mekhu's engineering team settled on an effective configuration of paired AT-3400 engines, giving the Ammit a maximum afterburner speed of 215 kph.

As all existing Allied bombs required target locks, and hence were unsuitable for the Ammit's planned dive-bomber role, Mekhu designed and manufactured the GVM Khepri dumbfire anti-capital rocket in-house. The Khepri, which can be fired without a target lock, allowed the Ammit to make high-speed passes on targets and deliver its payload quickly. The Ammit carries two banks of twenty-four Khepris total in its standard configuration.

After a competitive bidding war, in which designs from Akheton and Sahr Corporations were considered but ultimately rejected, the Ammit design won the bomber contract. The Ammit entered mass-production last year, and currently serves in the 4th, 7th, and 13th Vasudan Battle Groups. It has yet to see major action, but has passed its OpEval period, despite many commanders' worries about its limited battlefield endurance and vulnerability to interceptors. Still, the Ammit should serve the Vasudan fleet for years to come.

Fighter-Variant Tech Room Description

The Mekhu Enterprises GVF Ammit interceptor is a modern product of quality Vasudan engineering, incorporating efficiently-integrated Terran dual engines. The Ammit was designed as a high-speed interceptor, which could quickly engage and destroy incoming Shivan bomber waves. It mounts a single four-gun primary bank, usually mounting the the GTW UD-8 Kayser for heavy, close-range firepower. Two sizeable secondary bays, usually filled with Tornado missiles, increase its lethality. Its top speed is an exceptional 215 kph, and its maneuverability is superb. Its armor and shielding are an improvement on the paper-thin Serapis, but are not enough to survive sustained dogfighting or anti-capital strikes. Standard doctrine calls for Ammit squadrons to be deployed as fleet escorts or superiority fighters, as it cannot mount any effective anti-capital weapons.
