LSF Hazel-D

Description:

Wings of Dawn Tech Room Description

The Hazel is a heavy duty bomber, operating under LSF service since NC0112. Over the course of its operational life, it has received numerous refits and modifications and is currently in its fourth iteration. Through all the changes, though, the Hazel's mission has remained the same - to deliver a crippling load of secondary ordanance and clear areas of hostile forces rapidly.

Unlike other LSF craft, the Hazel is plated with Ferro-Fibrous plating which is equally resistant to energy and kinetic weapons.

There's only one chance to fly the Hazel which is in M23 and only after you unlock it by completing M17 with a fast enough time. In terms of this ship behaves, it's very comparable to the Medusa, it focuses most of its gungho firepower on its secondaries and much like the Medusa, it's essentially cannon fodder. It's lack of primary gunpoints makes it hard for a pilot to defend him/herself from attack, and the two laser turrets on it aren't too much of use. This issue comes full circle in the first mission of A Nordera Day where, without its escorts, the Hazels attacking can be destroyed with relative impunity. In short, if you're making a mission with Hazels involved, make sure it has adequate escort. It's a pure-bred bomber, and should be treated as such.

The Hazel is much more strongly dependent on its armor for defense than it is on its shields. Most of your infighting with the capitals will be done with shields down or nearly so.
