The Long Range Flak is a flak gun used in FreeSpace 2. This type of flak gun is mounted on the GTD Hecate and SJ Sathanas and primarily used as a defensive weapon to wear down approaching enemy fighters and bombers from beyond the range of most energy-based weapons and aspect-seeking missiles. Long Range Flak has the greatest targeting range of all flak guns—nearly three times that of the Heavy Flak—but does the least hull and shield damage per shot.

This Flak gun fires at longer range at the cost of damage, it does less than Standard and Heavy Flak.

This is what the SJ Sathanas uses as its forward flaks to cover its 4 main beam cannons. It can shoot far, very far.

If you have any breached quadrant, you will die very fast. When you have to destroy the first Sathanas's beam turrets, you should pipe more power into the shields to avoid being killed by the flak.

Long-range flak can be especially murderous when placed on a double- or triple-weapon turret, such as those on an Orion, by bringing its rate of fire closer to that of Standard Flak, while retaining the incredible range.
