There is no canon information on the real-world astronomical identity of the Shivan Nebula, but evidence suggests it may be either the Crab Nebula or the Lupus Nebula. For more information, see Identity of the Shivan Nebula.

Notes
The Shivan Nebula, known in-game as The Mysterious Nebula Beyond Gamma Draconis, or simply The Nebula, is, like most nebulae, the remnant of an ancient supernova. It was connected to Gamma Draconis via a Knossos device (on the Gamma Draconis side) and to the Binary System via another Knossos portal. It is also believed that this nebula is the first place where the Ancients encountered the Shivans.
