Outer Rim Syndicate - Sky Garden Space City
This huge modular installation was designed a long time before the formation of Syndicate, at the beginning of the Terran colonization of the Outer Rim. It was intended to provide a living habitat for up to 700,000 residents but also serve as a logistic base, trade centre and a starting point for long range expeditions and mining operations. Sky Gardens were often the first Terran bases constructed in a newly colonized sector - initially lonely islands among the cold vastness of space, then consistently surrounded by a network of colonies, mines, refineries and supply depots. Because of their role they usually remained political, trade and financial centres for the surrounding areas even after the majority of the population and industry moved to other space stations and planetary colonies.
During the Martian War Sky Garden installations were targets of EFN genocidal attacks targeted against their strategic spaceports and supply depots, the most infamous was destruction of ORI Heaven Gate, a Sky Garden-class instalation in high orbit of Neptune in June 2351. For that reason the Syndicate covered the entire hull of most stations of this class with a powerful shielding system which was disassembled in 2359, several years after the Hesperian Armistice. Without their shield generators the domes became death traps for their population when the Shivan destroyers nullified them with their spinal cannons. Only one installation of this class - ORI City of the Sun - was partialy evacuated to ORCo Abraham before being destroyed by main cannons of a Shivan juggernaut.
