The SJD Sathanas was a decoy version of the SJ Sathanas used in the FreeSpace 2 mission, Into the Lion's Den. Up close, it is a simple textured pentahedron (a five sided polyhedron), but in the target view, it appears to be a Sathanas class ship. The reason this was used was to save memory on the older machines, and in Into the Lion's Den, there are seven Sathanas class juggernauts that jump in.

Because of the amount of distance between the player and the ships in the aforementioned mission, and the fact that the player only had 15 minutes to complete the mission, the player never actually got to see the pentahedron shape of this ship.

Many user-made mods have deleted the SJD from the list of available ships to save room, since the ship's only use was fulfilled in the official FreeSpace 2 campaign.

On a related note, there was a small, low poly Sathanas model found in the retail VP files. These were probably used by Volition in order to create the target view illusion.

Not to be confused with the actual SJ Sathanas.
