The FreeSpace 2 Open game engine has been used to create several different total conversions. The oldest of these, The Babylon Project has recently released new version - 3.4 Beta - while two newcomers, Beyond the Red Line (BattleStar Galactica) and Wing Commander Saga have both released their first playable versions.
