ACT 1, MISSION 2

Fighter squadron: 53rd Hammerheads
Description: The 53rd Hammerheads, GTD Aquitaine, is assigned to sanitize an NTF cargo depot.

Background

After the Vasudan refugees are evacuated from Cygnus Prime, Command receives recon information about an NTF cargo area that may hold strategically valuable material. Destroying this depot and all materials should put a dent in the rebel offense and research abilities.

Walkthrough

Another easy one, but it's still early in the campaign. Focus on the enemy fighters and let Beta wing move in on the cargo containers. The GTF Loki is a far more maneuverable opponent than the boxy GTF Hercules, and faster as well. Fortunately they aren't as well-armed, or as tough. Work together with the rest of your squad: team up on targets, and watch out for bandits trying to come around on your tail.

After you've mopped up the NTF fighters, clean up anything else that Beta hasn't already handled. There's a few sentry guns, and freighers. Note that sentry guns can sometimes pierce your shields, but stay cool: they will not possibly destroy you before you neutralize them with your much greater firepower.

Once the cargo depot area is clean, Command will instruct you to investigate an unknown sensor contact. Follow their directions and head toward the faint, flashing radar contact. This will turn out to be an NTF installation. A wing of GTB Medusa bombers is sent in to smash the installation, and you should cover the bombers as new hostile fighters jump into the area.

Before it can be destroyed however, the installation breaks apart to reveal the rebel command ship, the NTF Iceni. Despite Command's hasty directive, you have absolutely zero chance of disabling or destroying this capital ship before it flees into subspace. So don't feel too bad. Once the Iceni is gone, clear up any remaining fighters and cargo containers, then jump out. Congratulations on a succesful strike mission.
