The GVC Mentu is a Vasudan-designed cruiser. Despite being deficient in terms of armaments, the Mentu is extremely durable for its class.

The GVC Mentu

Description:

FS2 Tech Room Description

The GVC Mentu cruiser is the lightest of the new Vasudan warships. Following the Great War, allied scientists developed the beam cannons that now serve as the primary armaments of today's GTVA warships. Rather than modify existing ships, the Vasudans developed new designs to mount these weapons. The Mentu's 16 turrets include heavy beam cannons for duking it out with other warships, as well as AAA and flak turrets to fend off smaller craft. The GVC Somtus and the GVC Mycerinus recently demonstrated the strength of the Mentu against NTF forces in Epsilon Pegasi.

FS2 MetaStream Model Description

The GVC Mentu cruiser is the lightest of the next generation of Vasudan warships. Following the Great War, allied scientists developed the beam cannons that now serve as the primary armaments of today’s GTVA warships. Rather than modify existing ships, the Vasudans developed new designs to mount these weapons. The Mentu improves on the old PVC Aten cruiser in size and firepower. Its 16 turrets include heavy beam cannons for duking it out with other warships, as well as AAA and flak turrets to fend off fighters and bombers. The GVC Ibis and the GVC Mycerinus recently demonstrated the strength of the Mentu against rebel forces in Epsilon Pegasi.

Name origin

Mentu (more correctly spelled Menthu, meaning nomad) was one of the many Egyptian gods of war. Menthu was said to transform himself into a bull when angered. In that form, he was referred to as Bakha.

Veteran Comments

The Mentu is victim of poor weapons placement. Its main weaponry, flaks and AAA beams, is pointed upwards; attack from below, and pay the most attention to enemies below. It is also worth noting that, despite the techroom description, the Mentu mounts no anticapital beams. That said, if deployed in pairs arranged to provide mutual protection to their undersides (read that: bottom facing the other's bottom at 50 meters or less) or providing additional anti-aerospace protection to a larger ship with its guns facing outwards from the larger craft's hull and using the larger ship to protect its vulnerable underside, the Mentu can be every bit as dangerous as the Aeolus.

Despite its absence of capship weapons, it is best in its role as a cargo escort against lots of bombers and no capital ships. Having a group of them in a convoy can cause trouble for all sorts of enemy bombers despite the lack of significant defensive weaponry on its underside.

The role this ship would most likely find itself in would be in convoy duty, as it is relatively fast, can take a pounding and is well suited to interdicting fighters and bombers so long as they don't approach its vulnerable sides. The Mentu unfortunately sports no anticap weapons heavier than flak cannons, so any capital ship heavier than a Fenris will blow the Mentu out of the water.
