****That is actually really cool. You're in possession of a rare commodity. Back on topic, I'm wondering if these should be considered canon planets since they weren't in the retail version. Given that they express the developer's original intention, I think they should be. *****Working on it. Since I beat freespace 2 for the first time a couple of days ago, I decided to play freespace 1 all over again. So I'll have to go through all of the missions and find out, since mission select is missing everything now. And I agree with you. --FlamingCobra 16:18, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

*****Well, actually, I'll put it this way. I know Seth-class fighters have afterburner trails but I know if I look in the rear view I don't have any, and I don't think shivan fighters do.

*****I'm of the opinion that if it's by [V], it's canon. Ao Operation Templar is canon, while the ST community missions aren't. So DVD FS1 stuff is (IMO at least), assuming it was a [V] addition, not interplay or something odd like that. Black Wolf 02:59, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

********Hmmm... how about this. We already have pages for every canon star system - how about we add links to the plant bitmaps used in any that were visited in FS2 (this should be fairly straightforward, since the retail BGs are already listed for most of them. FlamingCobra can then add to those lists any FS1 planets from his version of the game. Black Wolf 17:13, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

*Just write a generic name. Like "Betelgeuse planet", "Antares planet" I guess. - Snail 18:37, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

**Don't we already have a naming system? Like Betelgeuse I, etc? The only downside is we don't really know how planets are in the star system. BTW, would you see the teal planetoid in this pic is? Is it another moon or a different planet entirely? --FlamingCobra 22:20, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

***Naming system corresponds to how many planets away from the star it is (so Earth would be Sol III, Mars = Sol IV, etc.). Since we don't know which planet is which, we'll just have to settle on something vague (and since there's only one planet bitmap we see in Antares and Betelgeuse, a generic "planet" name should suffice). Also, on the subject of the Ancient cutscenes, we really have no clue which system they are in. We can mention those planets but not as part of any particular system. (about the teal planetoid, looks like a moon of some kind, planets are usually not that close together) - Snail 02:17, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

*I noticed that some of the same planets appear in multiple locations. Well actually just one. The Antares BG Planet. It appears in multiple missions in multiple locations but most missions do not have planets at all. The Ribos BG Planet was used only once and the Betelgeuse BG Planet appears only once so both of them can be considered at least partially canon. So what about the other one? --FlamingCobra 21:43, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm supposing the ones from the original game are canon but the ones in Media VPS are not, since they look different but are in the same place? --FlamingCobra 00:32, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Can planets seen but never mentioned in-game be considered quasi-canon? --FlamingCobra 22:51, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

  • I think that's reasonable. However, those planets seen in the FSPort missions are 100% non-canon, since those were added by the FSPort team and not present in the original missions. The original FS1 did not have any planet bitmaps. (CBanims and cutscenes are a different story, of course) - Snail 10:23, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
    • Really? What about this Betelgeuse BG Planet.png and this Antares BG Planet.png? They came straight from the original FreeSpace 1 campaign. --FlamingCobra 15:13, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
      • Those are both from non retail versions of the FreeSpace 1 campaign, possibly a DVD re-release, an early demo or the OEM version. Whether or not they are considered canon is up to debate. However, I can assure you that the retail version did not have any planet bitmaps. - Snail 15:44, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
        • Yeah, I tried to update once, and it said I couldn't because it was a non-retail version. But it is not a demo, it is the whole campaign (aside from Silent Threat), and it is on a DVD. I got my copy as a part of a bundled software package a long long time ago. It came with my old Gateway Windows ME computer. --FlamingCobra 15:59, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
