SILENT THREAT: REBORN MISSION 16
Fighter squadron: 82nd Nighthawks
Description: Our hero is scrambled to assist in the defense of a Vasudan installation against the GTD Hades.
Background
The GTA and PVE have been sent into a state of chaos after the GTI had unveiled their new Hades-class vessel and used it to destroy allied strongholds throughout Beta Aquilae and Vega.
While the allied fleets are scouring the systems to find the Hades, GTI squadrons are attacking the PVI Egyptos installation. Alpha and Beta Wings are scrambled to defend the installation, and if need be, assist in the evacuation process.
Walkthrough
You and Alpha Wing will be piloting a GTF Valkyrie with a Shield Breaker, Prometheus, and Interceptor missiles. Beta Wing will consist of four Ulysses, and Epsilon will be consisting of three Seths.
Dogfight, dogfight, dogfight. You will face multiple waves of Medusa bombers and Loki fighters. Then assign Alpha and Beta wings to help with the station evacuation.
Destroy the Zeus that's heading towards the Egyptos's reactor. You will have a special warning from Command when this happens.
Dogfight, dogfight, and dogfight until the Hades jumps in. Then get as far as you can from the station and wait until you receive orders to withdraw.
Notes
- This mission is known to load very slowly, due to the hi-poly GVI Karnak, which is one of the most complex models to date.
Developer Commentary
The PVI Karnak is another venerable mod from the original FreeSpace, and had a prominent role in Cardinal Spear. Galemp's high-poly upgrade is the centerpiece of this mission and subverts the "fly into the reactor" gimmick by placing the player on defense.
The Serkr torpedoes used in this mission and the one prior are early prototypes of the GTM Cyclops, and are later available in Operation Templar.
