Description:
INFR1 Tech Room Description
Serpents appear to be a hybridisation of the Basilisk and Manticore fighters that fought the Alliance in previous encounters with the Shivans. Its configuration suggests a heavy assault fighter role, a mandate which it fulfills well. Destroy them before they go after our bombers with their dual missile banks and heavy cannons.

Probably dangerous for unprotected freighters and other utility ships, but in majority of mods, this thing is mostly trying to kill you instead.
