Perhaps the Euryale's most controversial design decision is its active defense measures. Inferno Nostos Tech Room Description
Advanced Terran medium bomber.
Designed to destroy cruisers and corvettes, Dynamic Metamer produced the Euryale as a companion to the Rhea, intended to replace the outdated Artemis bomber. Unlike its companion bomber, the Euryale's development proceeded smoothly, beginning with Han-Ronald's venerable Medusa as a baseline and applying six decades of technical innovation to produce the most sophisticated medium bomber in the fleet. Mounting a DM-72 reactor core powering its dense shielding system and sporting the latest generation of active armor systems, the Euryale is built to take a beating. Three missile bays mounting all conventional GTVA ordnance, along with a dedicated bank of Plasma Accelerator Cannons, gives the Euryale the firepower to take on anything smaller than a destroyer.
Perhaps the Euryale's most controversial design decision is its active defense measures. Terran bomber pilots have long advocated for the return of defense turrets on next-generation bomber designs, but the Euryale eschews a turret system in favor of the SPELLS tactical engagement system. The Euryale mounts the OVERDRIVE afterburner supercharger, and the SMARTBOMB electromagnetic pulse defensive weapon. Initial results have been promising for both the SPELLS suite and the bomber itself, but skepticism among the bomber corps remains high.
The Sixth Seal Tech Room Description
The Euryale is an aging medium bomber design, developed by Han-Ronald some five years after the start of the Terran-Vasudan War. In response to the recently integrated GTA navy's lack of a system with more ordnance capacity than the Mustang Beta and more maneuverability than the Atlas, the freshly incorporated Han-Ronald sought to develop a ship designed along similar lines to their Kestrel heavy fighter, phased out shortly after the war's beginning. The Euryale features an ergonomic welded slab-steel fuselage with quick-removal Kraftei-style mounting points for engine thrusters, stabilizers, and ordnance bays. While most fighter and bomber developers have moved on to more advanced spaceframe structures, the simplicity and durability of the otherwise crude design allows for low maintenance costs and ease of repair in the field compared to other designs, ranging from basic patching to full unit removal for overhaul or replacement.
The Euryale's largest weakness is its ordnance bays. While spacious, the ship's obsolete hardware and guidance systems have rendered the Euryale unable to use much more than the latest variants of the Quake heavy bomb, or more basic missile designs. With new ordnance in development, including advanced anti-cruiser munitions, Han-Ronald has already begun testing of a new ship - the GTB Medusa - to replace the venerable bomber for the next decade or more to come. Though little more than pictures have been released of it so far, the Medusa appears to follow very heavily in the Euryale's design principles, and speculation remains on whether any components from older Euryale spaceframes will be cannibalized to expedite the new bomber's introduction.
