Time Compression
Freespace SCP features the set-time-compression sexp, which is primarily used to speed things up, for example to shorten long flights. However, this sexp can also be used to slow down the action on the screen by using values <100. The result is a slow motion effect also known as bullet time since the sci-fi movie The Matrix.
Triggerable bullet time
Using a series of every-time events, the mini-campaign Dark Children for the Total Conversation The Babylon Project gave players the possibility to slow down time by pressing the Secondary Trigger and destroy their enemies with precise shots even over huge distances. The slow rate of fire but huge damage of the player ship's weapons made every shot count. This fact as well as the high difficulty of Dark Children encouraged the player to use this bullet time to overcome the odds. Worth of note is the beginning of Mission 4, during which the player has to destroy a wing of enemy fighters in only a couple of seconds to prevent them from alerting others, which is practically impossible without use of the bullet time.
