GTF Aurora

Description:

Casualties of War Tech Room Description

The Aurora is a heavily adapted variant of the Perseus and the old Valkyrie class interceptors. Although similar in performance - albeit slightly faster -the Aurora is purpose built to use 30% less hanger space - extremely useful for the cramped Agamenmon fighterbay.

Blue Planet Tech Room Description

The Aurora is a heavy reconnaissance fighter designed to replace the Loki in its intended roles of scouting, interception, and space superiority. The Aurora is a swift fighter that carries advanced avionics and sensor systems to assist in the gathering of information. However, the added equipment has produced a heavy hull, limiting the combat maneuverability of the design. Aurora fighters are currently undergoing mission trials with the 14th Battlegroup in the Sol System.

General: It flies like the Perseus, even a little better, but the Aurora has a noticeable drop in durability. While not made of cardboard and glue like a Serapis, the Aurora is not quite the perfect blend of speed, maneuverability, and durability that the Perseus is.

However, it has six guns, which makes it a credible next-generation interceptor fighter. I dare go as far as calling it a space superiority. Note those six guns are tightly packed together along the nose, providing an accurate punch.

Casualties of War: The best fighter out of the bunch, the Aurora can hold its own in player hands, being classified as an interceptor. Place the Prometheus S in the second bank (which is a 4-mount setup) and you'll be able to kill most Vasudan fighters in a matter of shots. In here, it has more gun energy and missile capacity than its Blue Planet counterpart. Has the best weapons compatibility, save the Maxim. Recommend this over the Daedelus every chance you get. It's not a Perseus, but it has a somewhat compact design (doesn't have a huge vertical profile from a head or tail-on pass like the Perseus, but pays with a somewhat larger front-to-back profile). The way the missions are set up, the trick about using this fighter is to not use both gun banks at one time. Almost always take an anti-subsystem weapon or special weapon in the dual bank, and put a dogfighting-dedicated weapon in the quad bank.

Dawn of Sol: The Aurora is portrayed as a high speed interceptor with light armor, but with high weapons compatibility. It's the most deadly Independent Colony fighter with ridiculously high speed. With Slammer area-suppression missiles, the Aurora is one of those fighters that can bag an amazing amount of kills (considering the fact that the level writer wrote many tight-clustered bomber formations). It also has access to the Prometheus Experimental, which if placed on the 4-gun mount, can instantly write the death sentence on most fighters with less than five shots.

Blue Planet: The Aurora is slightly larger than and less maneuverable than a GTF Perseus. On the other hand you have a fighter that is as fast as the Perseus, but with six guns and 10 more shields. You'd be better off taking a Perseus to a dogfight, but the Aurora can hold its own. The Aurora along with newer fighters like the GTF Atalanta and the Alliance standard Perseus is one of the few Alliance fighters that can dogfight UEF fighters and have a chance of winning. Compared to the Myrmidon the Aurora is less maneuverable and significantly less tough, travels at roughly the same speeds, has a similar weapons payload, but the Myrmidon is so much larger that the Aurora is probably a better choice. If you're a fan of using a Balor in the quad bank, definitely take the Aurora over the Myrmidon.

The Aurora is often seen in War in Heaven setting up SSM strikes, which makes taking them out of the utmost importance.

In Chanticleer, the Aurora acts as a jack of all trades, capable of carrying out most roles adequately. The Atalanta is more durable and maneuverable, but only has one secondary bank and can't load Trebuchets. The Perseus is faster and more maneuverable, but lacks the sensor suite and two guns. The Artemis and Rhea are better bombers, but are sitting ducks for Federal fighters. Like the old Apollo, it can do a little bit of everything. Chanticleer is also written to simulate the specialized sensor suite in action.

In the Blue Planet universe, the Aurora is basically a pocket AWACS. It's fluff capabilities include improving friendlies' targeting capabilities, setting up TAG-to-SSM strikes, doing long-range scans or very accurate scans, and detecting stealth ships. These roles should be emphasized in missions it is put in : with all its array of specialized sensors and equipment, the Aurora is not your typical fightercraft. It is not uncommon for a single Aurora fighter to be deployed leading a full wing of true combat fightercraft, in order to improve their abilities (usually resulting, in term of mission design, in improved AI class). On the other hand, full wings of Auroras are rarely deployed in active combat but can be used as patrol or recon wings.
