A laser turret that does not rotate and therefore can only be fired in the direction of flight is called a monodirectional laser gun.

Fighters and bombers are armed with monodirectional laser guns, as well as a few transport classes. Accuracy completely depends on the skill of the pilot, not on an Artificial Intelligence-controller gunner of any sort. Because of the size of the craft which have been armed with monodirectional guns, compatibility is an issue.

In spite of Capital ship guns, guns of this type absorb energy from an independent generator designed especially for laser guns, while Capital ship guns drain energy from a large, central reactor.
