Can planets seen but never mentioned in-game be considered quasi-canon? --FlamingCobra 22:51, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- I think that's reasonable. However, those planets seen in the FSPort missions are 100% non-canon, since those were added by the FSPort team and not present in the original missions. The original FS1 did not have any planet bitmaps. (CBanims and cutscenes are a different story, of course) - Snail 10:23, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Really? What about this and this ? They came straight from the original FreeSpace 1 campaign. --FlamingCobra 15:13, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Those are both from non retail versions of the FreeSpace 1 campaign, possibly a DVD re-release, an early demo or the OEM version. Whether or not they are considered canon is up to debate. However, I can assure you that the retail version did not have any planet bitmaps. - Snail 15:44, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, I tried to update once, and it said I couldn't because it was a non-retail version. But it is not a demo, it is the whole campaign (aside from Silent Threat), and it is on a DVD. I got my copy as a part of a bundled software package a long long time ago. It came with my old Gateway Windows ME computer. --FlamingCobra 15:59, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- That is actually really cool. You're in possession of a rare commodity. I got the OEM version (which also had kick ass 3d afterburner trails) with an old Windows 98 Dell computer along with a Sidewinder joystick, aaaaaages ago... Back on topic, I'm wondering if these should be considered canon planets since they weren't in the retail version. Given that they express the developer's original intention, I think they should be. What other planet bitmaps appeared, and in which star systems/missions? - Snail 16:07, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Working on it. Since I beat freespace 2 for the first time a couple of days ago, I decided to play freespace 1 all over again. So I'll have to go through all of the missions and find out, since mission select is missing everything now. And I agree with you. --FlamingCobra 16:18, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Well, actually, I'll put it this way. I know Seth-class fighters have afterburner trails but I know if I look in the rear view I don't have any, and I don't think shivan fighters do.
