Wings of Dawn Tech Room Description
During the Terran-Cyrvan War, the LSF was desperately looking for a weapon that could either penetrate the shields of Cyrvan capital ships or the armor of their MCWS escorts. The resultant weapon, the Model 7 Plasma Cannon (VX-07), proved to be very effective against armor but less so against shields. It was quickly rushed into production with several revisions being made afterwards to adress the flaws as best as possible. Even after revision D, the weapon still suffered from a limited range (Plasma losing cohesion quickly) and being a large drain on the fighter's energy reserve.
The VX-08 Plasma Cannon is a recent developed upgrade over the VX-07d, improving on range and damage. It remains however, quite an energy hog. This weapon is still in the progress of being distributed amongst the LSF fleets but hopes are to have the VX-07d completely phased out within a few months time.
