LSF scientists have for the longest time concluded that chemical, kinetic-based weapons are at their evolutionary end. However there is no denying that there is still a demand for kinetic based weapons in current warfare, so the people at Silva's research labs started researching if there is a way to negate the disadvantages (Limited ammo which requires dedicated space in a fighter and the limited damage a single shell can inflict on a well armored hull) while keeping the advantages (superior range, good performance against shields) of these weapon kinds.
They found their answer in the latest cutting edge Energy to Mass converter technology. The resulting weapon, the VXK-111, is capable of producing its own ammunition on the spot! And not only that but the resulting shell is infused with a great deal of energy which greatly increases its ability to penetrate armor. On the downside, while the VXK-111 is basically still a railgun (and thus requires minimal energy to fire), it drains a lot of energy to produce its next shell.
This weapon is currently still only a prototype but has been rushed out due to the dire state of the war. More revisions will surely follow.
