Federation light carrier. Developed during a time of significant Federation expansion and naval buildup, the smaller carriers were an ideal solution to escalating mission costs. Light carriers are deployed to take over operations in low-end conflicts, freeing up the more capable fleet carriers to focus on higher-end threats. In fleet actions, light carriers bolster the strikecraft potential of Federation task groups.
