The GTSG Cerberus is a Terran-designed sentry gun. It is to the GTSG Watchdog what the GTC Leviathan is to the GTC Fenris; compared to the Watchdog, the Cerberus sports slightly more accurate and damaging turrets, as well as a 650% increase in hull integrity. While these improvements make the Cerberus more dangerous than the Watchdog, it is still more of an irritant than a real threat on its own, and should ideally be combined with the firepower of other friendly forces in the vicinity.

The GTSG Cerberus

FS1 Tech Room Description

The Cerberus is an advanced version of the Watchdog, with stronger weaponry and the ability to withstand more damage.

FS2 Tech Room Description

Until the advent of the GTSG Alastor, the GTSG Cerberus was the most advanced sentry gun emplacement available to Terran forces. They were vital to Terran defenses during the Great War, racking up over 100 kills of Vasudan and Shivan combat craft. But the current conflict has found them primarily in back-line roles, guarding installations deemed relatively safe from attack. With no mobility and only two Subach HL-7 turrets, they serve as more of a distraction than a viable threat to modern combat craft.

Name origin

In Greek mythology, Cerberus was the hound of Hades. Cerberus guarded the gate to hell, and permitted entry only for the dead. No one was permitted to leave. Cerberus was depicted as a three-headed dog, his tail being a snake said to have at least 50 heads.

He was overcome several times in literature: Hercules's final labor was to capture Cerberus, and Hermes put him to sleep with water from the river Lethe.

The Cerberus partly fixes the problems with the GTSG Watchdog. With its Avenger or HL-7 turrets, it packs more punch. With 150 hitpoints, it can take one or two hits. However, in order to pose any real threat, there must be quite a few of them.

The Cerberus gets a darker, blue-theme paintjob from the 3.6.14 mediavps onwards.

Not a bad sentry gun. Wholly superior to the Watchdog in every way, but crucially it possesses turrets that give it the actual ability to damage a fighter's shields somewhat reliably. They are, similar to the Alastor, quite effective in a defensive position with fighters and a cruiser.
