Campaign Walkthrough Apocalypse

ACT 3, MISSION 10

Fighter squadron: 70th Blue Lions
Description: The last mission

Background

Walkthrough

There are two ways to beat this mission. One, jump out right away. The sole mission goal becomes true when Alpha 1 departs. You will get no mission debrief ("no debriefing available for mission sm3-10"), although the campaign will be officially over (you can't go into the ready room and continue the campaign).

Two, be a man and fight.

In this mission, you have to protect as many ships as possible (translation: huge dogefight). If you want to be dumb, you can sit inside the node until command says there is a supernova. If you want to be good like the rest of us, you just slug it out with the fighters. Of course, bombers always first.

For the ship (same as previous mission), I'd suggest the GTF Perseus. it fast enough to engage the enemy quickly, so you can escape to the node before the supernova without having to kill 30 fighters that WERE 4k away. For the weapons (also same as before), GTW UD-8 Kayser and GTM Trebuchet.

Mind though, that round about 15 minutes, you would be warned that the Capella star had gone supernovae. So, I recommend the following things. When it is about 13 minutes, start heading for the node. It is far away from you, and going there takes about 1 minute 30. Its ok if you die, you just get another cutscene.

Notes

Containers

There are some unscanned containers in the second wave. Just hit the "U" button when the second convoy arrives. There's hidden stuff like "Dravis' Diary" you can scan on those cargoes.

Supernova

The Supernova appears in the Final level of FreeSpace 2. It is shown towards the end of the mission and also in the ending a cutscene. However, it is possible to stop the Supernova by disabling the Melchom and the Bane since it is triggered by their departure or destruction.
