A clip of the voice acting can still(!) be found in the Descent: FreeSpace demo with the name "Voicetest.wav", and it's just a tiny snippet from the ending of the longer newscaster monologue; "Two weeks ago, everyone was shocked to learn of the existence of a third sentient species.  Initial enthusiasms were stifled, however, after the mysterious species proceeded to destroy several Terran and Vasudan front outposts including the Riviera, the Jamestown, and the Anatov shipyards.  Little is known of their forces, but reports from the Terran-Vasudan front indicate that several outposts on both sides have been destroyed, and that both forces are retreating from the contact areas.  Allied Command has classified all footage, but assures us that information will be released soon". I remember having some hi-res rendered images from that news scene, but I've lost them. They are probably still out there on the 'net. Maybe someone knows where, eh? Et cetera. Oh ya, I remember those. Those aren't all of them, tho. I know the FreeSpace NetWork is gone, but I remember having all those pics (ya, the news guy and that) on a CD way back in ...gasp... the *last millenium...!!! Ah well, gone for good, I guess. Just like most of the V stuff from yesteryear. --Selectah 02:37, 14 December 2007 (CST)

Hey, does anyone know the status of the backup tapes at Volition HQ? The last I heard was that they're borked. From all I can deduct, the only way to get a copy of the Alpha(s)/Beta would be to ask Volition (very) nicely. Selectah 06:34, 15 February 2008 (CST)

*The tape drives are "borked" and nobody really has reason to hire a data recovery specialist to get stuff off them. CP5670 or Goober are the only two people I can think of contacting if you'd like to know more. But if someone were to politely ask for something as simple as the Alpha/Betas, they would probably agree and have it on hand somewhere. They probably have them on CD considering that they shipped them to gaming magazines. Mustang19 08:56, 15 February 2008 (CST)

Oh, man. You've nicked my talk page(!)... Alrighty then, perhaps it can be made into a semi-coherent article then. I'll see what I can do. Selectah 01:17, 10 December 2007 (CST)

 • Ok, replying to myself here. I cleaned it up a bit, there's only so much that one can add. I don't really see why my talk page was turned into an article, but there ya go... Selectah 02:36, 10 December 2007 (CST)

And you did an excellent job. Thanks. It's an important part of FS history. Mustang19 08:10, 10 December 2007 (CST)

Trailer video

The Descent Network link to the trailer appears dead. I put in a Youtube link. Edit: Nevermind, that's the FS2 trailer. Mustang19 09:43, 10 December 2007 (CST)

 • Trailer works fine. If you want to place another link there, that's fine, too. This one would be fine, for example. Don't delete a working link, tho. Selectah 22:30, 10 December 2007 (CST)

It works now, under Mozilla. Down with Internet Explorer!

 • Another question. You still haven't told me exactly where all this stuff came from. I can understand where you got the screenshots from since I've seen them on the Volition website. However, how did you get a hold of the weapons table? Mustang19 11:23, 11 December 2007 (CST)

Ah, from all around, to be honest. I have a couple of old CD's with stuff that I gathered back in the day, such as the (voiced!) Slaser campaign (nope, that's not "Slasher", that's "Slaser"), Alpha/Beta stuff, et cetera. I'm not a terribly good archiver, though, so I've probably lost 98% of that old stuff. (If I recall correctly, I think I released most of those campaigns as Selectah's New Year Extravaganza™ some years ago.) But yeah, if I can find any more references to the tables and such on the 'net, I can insert them as links and stuff. Hey, the Wayback Machine's an all-too-underused tool, don't y'know? By the way, some of the dropped stuff planned for release at the time of the Alpha/Beta versions is still available, by digging a bit deeper into the official stuff. The "news scene" which was to be played out in the officer's club on the ITA Repulse -- mentioned in the FreeSpace Reference Bible -- was voiced and in the process of being rendered when time/money ran out.
