Location: Atmosphere of Venus

Background

The 52nd Nomads attempt to capture Federation bombers at a hidden base in the toxic atmosphere of Venus.

Walkthrough

This is an escort mission that will require you to dogfight agile enemies. The Aurora is the preferred ship for this mission because of its ability to cut through the sensor interference; a good loadout is to take an Aurora with an all-Prometheus loadout, plus Harpoons and Tornadoes. Beta wing is flying the Perseus by default.

You'll start out next to the Argo transport you have to guard, the GTT Boxer. There will be some dialogue as you approach the station. Once you get within targeting range, you'll see three White Guards flying the Lao Tze. Take them down fast, because they can destroy the Boxer with swarm missiles extremely quickly. Shortly after the first wave comes on radar, a second wing of Lao Tze fighters launches from the station. Shoot them down. Use your wingmen to your advantage - the Lao Tze is a glass cannon. As the Boxer approaches the platform, it will begin to take damage from the installation's turrets. You don't need to destroy the turrets, but you do need to draw their fire so they don't kill the Boxer with flak.

After the Boxer docks, you'll hear some dialogue. This is a good time to rearm.

A minute or so later, a Federation convoy with two wings of fighters and a transport warps in. Engage them ASAP, as they will target the parked bombers and destroy them if you allow them to get into range. Once the convoy is destroyed or departed, the Cretheus-class gunboat Horace will warp in to relieve you. Mission complete.

Notes

• In Graeco-Roman and Babylonian mythology, Venus was known as the Evening Star.
• Platform D-34 is a reference to the first mission of TIE Fighter.
• There are bonus objectives for capturing all six Lapiths intact, and for destroying the Federation transport before it warps out. Accomplishing both of these will earn you the Allied Defense Citation.
