FOW Tech Room Description
With the cancellation of so many Cobra orders, Tryton Dynamics was left with unfinished hulls and modules, and was looking at a severe financial loss. Drastic action was required, and a quick solution was found by a young engineer - rather than design a whole new vessel from scratch and scrap all the built parts, the hulls and best working modules would be used to create something new. Soon, the Cobra X was born. The Cobra X basically merges two Cobra hulls together, into a larger and more powerful warship. Learning from all the mistakes in the Cobra project, the ship was fitted with a more powerful engine assembly, extra power redundancy, faster navigation computers and more armor. The asymmetrical design was lost, but this played to the manufacturers strength, since they had more experience with symmetrical designs. This ship was designed for an artillery role. Instead of one large type 6 beam cannon, it has two type 4 beam cannons optimized for long-range fire. These are complimented by 4 M-10 torpedo launchers, each designed to fire in 8-missile swarms to saturate enemy PD and maximize alpha strike damage. The ship carries enough missiles for only 5-6 salvos, but the damage it can do is considerable. To further compliment it's anti-capital firepower it mounts two latest rapid-fire TAC turrets. For anti-fighter defense, it's hull is dotted with laser turrets and anti-fighter beams and the latest Skyguard Flak system.
