The GVEP Ra is a Vasudan-designed escape pod. The tech description for FS1 implies that the Ra was already being used even before the Terrans started equipping their larger warships with the GTEP Hermes. Like the Hermes, the Ra is equipped in small numbers on every large Vasudan warship. However, while the Terrans use their Hermes pods to evacuate nonessential personnel, the Vasudans prefer to use the Ra as a vessel for storing data and records that may be of use to their allies if recovered.

Description:
FS1 Tech Room Description
The Ra has been used by Vasudans since our first encounter with them. Every Vasudan capital ship has a few of these lifeboats.
FS2 Tech Room Description
The GVEP Ra escape pod has been the standard emergency vehicle on Vasudan capital ships since the Terran-Vasudan War. In keeping with Vasudan philosophies, the Ra is almost never used to evacuate personnel, but instead is employed to preserve records and other data that could be of use to the allies. Thus Ra-class craft have minimal life support systems and a small fusion engine. The energy supplied by the escape pod's powerplant goes almost entirely to powering the pod's homing beacon.

Ra was the primary god in Egyptian mythology, ruling the sun. He was worshiped as the primary god in the Fifth Dynasty of Ancient Egypt (2498 BC – 2345 BC).
