SILENT THREAT: REBORN MISSION 1
Fighter squadron: 91st Phantoms
Description: Wipe out the Vasudan pilots that survived the overzealous GTA assault. Preserve the Terran-Vasudan alliance.
Background
Signing on as a fresh pilot for the Special Operations division of Galactic Terran Intelligence, the first assignment is to silence a diplomatic incident with lethal force. Terran wings had fired on Vasudan forces and they were supposed to be in a cease fire state because of the Shivans' threat. Since the situation has gotten out of hand, the only option to preserve the fragile alliance is to "sanitize" all combatants and witnesses before word leaks out regarding the conflict...
Walkthrough
You must pick the Isis that's heading towards the jump node first. The default loadout is sufficient. Use Hornets to take down the transport. Don't try to disable it or destroy its weapons subsystem. Go for the kill right away.
Then shoot on sight until there are no hostiles around.
Notes
- In Silent Threat: Reborn, you must destroy the Isis that's heading towards the jump node. In the original, it is intended to escape.
Developer Commentary
The command briefing for this mission is one of the first things established as part of ST:R's development. One of the big questions of the original campaign was what the player was doing as part of the GTI, if the GTI was in rebellion. We established that GTI has three branches--Special Ops, Intel, and R&D--only one of which went rogue. We then tied this into the pseudocanon GTD Legion which participated in the Battle of Deneb but was not mentioned in any briefings, and is therefore plausibly a GTI destroyer. It's a lot of exposition but we felt it necessary to set up the politics we see later on in Mission 03 and the rest of the campaign.
