Galactic Terran Intelligence was the vast intelligence gathering arm of the old Galactic Terran Alliance, responsible for many of the strategies and technologies developed in the Great War. GTI did much of the GTA's research and development and was behind several new designs, in addition to its namesake intelligence function.
GTI appears to have grown well beyond the GTA's control by the end of the Great War, and was probably in this posistion well before then. At the end of the Great War, following the decisive defeat of remaining Shivan forces after the SD Lucifer's destruction, GTI rebelled against the GTA. Their ultimate goals are not clear, for they never had the chance to carry them out.
What is known is that GTI had apparently known of the Shivans since well before apparent first contact in Ross 128, and had been secreting away ships and resources for some purpose. They also, apparently, managed to communicate successfully with the Shivans and even gained the assistance of a small number of Shivans. (Whether the assistance was freely given or coerced somehow is not known; however, the Hades superdestroyer did launch a wing of fully operable Seraphim bombers against the GTC Orff.)
Not all members of GTI were in on the plot; among those left in the dark was GTI's own special-operations branch, centered on the GTD Krios. Pilots from the Krios stumbled onto the rebellion before it was fully ready, and GTI attempted to stop the Krios from warning the GTA by destroying it; they destroyed the Krios but failed to kill the pilots involved, and much of the crew made it away safely in escape pods defended by those pilots.
The surviving pilots of the Krios joined the GTD Soyakaze and lead the effort to uncover what GTI was trying to do, eventually stumbling onto evidence of GTI's superweapon, the Hades superdestroyer, an attempt to fuse Shivan and Terran technologies and recreate the Lucifer. The attempt ultimately failed; the Hades was not fully complete when it tried to intervene at GTI's Jotenheim installation, and was destroyed by a strike group from the Soyakaze, effectively ending the rebellion.
GTI is known to have operated a number of Orion class destroyers.
- GTD Krios (destroyed)
- GTD Myrmidon (May not have been GTI; status unknown.)
- GTD (name never shown)
