The McCarthy trials

The McCarthy Trials were the well publicized trials of Lieutenant Alexander McCarthy regarding his part in the attempted sale of the plans for the GTW Avenger to the Vasudans during the Terran-Vasudan War, immediately before the commencement of The Great War against the Shivans.

The trials apparenty became quite famous, and had, by 2367, become assumed knowledge due to their being part of the standard Terran school curriculum in the GTVA. The fact that the trials are known to Terrans outside of Sol, we must assume that they either took place in Sol during the Great War, before the collapse of the node, or that McCarthy was held, and eventually tried, outside of Sol after the node collapsed. The outcome of the trials is not known, but they likely became famous due to McCarthy's motivations (apparent foreknowledge of the Shivans and the threat they posed to both the Terrans and Vasudans), and almost certainly set some kind of significant precedent in areas relating to interpecies relations and the nature of what constitutes treason under extraordinary circumstances.
