The Mephisto freighter behaves much like one of our own. Only it is far more powerful and dangerous. Very little data is available on this ship class.

FS2 Tech Room Description

The SFr Mephisto class is equivalent to the Dis class in size and combat capabilities. Given their wildly different configurations, they must serve different purposes for the Shivans, but Allied Intelligence currently offers no further information on this matter.

Mephistopheles is a demon in European literary tradition. A devil named Mephisto appears in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's tragic play Faust.

Pretty standard Shivan freighter, the hardest thing about it is its small profile, it's basically a large, self powered, target with some small Shivan Light Laser turrets. Those turrets are the least of your worries in A Lion at the Door, Shell Game, and Their Finest Hour, the missions where you'll find them.

These are actually pretty aggravating. The Shivan Light Lasers are really good at shooting down bombs, and holding steady to lay into her with primaries is dangerous, especially if these guys are in a convoy. You may have to make successive runs.

The Mephisto is a surpisingly small target, and can be dangerous to an unwary pilot who holds still at close range so as to shoot it up with primaries. One of the few targets to which the ideal solution really is massed Hornet fire.
