UED Solaris

The UED Solaris is the destroyer class of the UEF in Blue Planet.

Description:

Blue Planet: War in Heaven Tech Description

The Solaris destroyers are the last line of capital ships for the Federation Navy after the Orion-class destroyers were phased out of service. These destroyers serve as mobile command bases for fightercraft and transport operations. These destroyers are a source of great pride and solidarity for the Federation, and since the commencement of hostilities between Earth and the GTVA, have provided much-needed strength to the Federation navy.

The Solaris is a powerful weapons platform with quite a bit of reach. It'll chew up Capella-era GTVA warships with its railguns, and like most UEF warships, it has excellent point defense. Against more modern warships like the Bellerophon and Chimera corvettes, however, its lack of beam weapons leaves it struggling. Against its true competition, the Titan and Raynor-class destroyers, the Solaris must use its fighter complement (preferably Shrike-armed gunships) to snipe forward beams if it hopes to survive. If it can close to broadside range without taking crippling damage, the Solaris' slabs of armor may give it the edge it needs to win out. As always, the outcome depends on positioning, warp in locations, and fighter tactics.
