Before Volition released the full version of FreeSpace 2, they released a short demo with two single player missions. Although made by Volition, the canonicity of the demo is disputed, but it is quite a good prelude to the actual game. The timeframe for these two missions is somewhere between A Lion at the Door and Straight, No Chaser.
