Tech Room Description
The Alkahest-class installation is designated a 'jump station' due to its unique characteristics and behavior. Its purpose appears to be to house a powerful theater shield generator system, projecting a massive shield barrier ten kilometers in radius. While the theater shield is impervious to energy weapons and small projectiles such as bullets and missiles, larger, shielded objects such as strikecraft and capital ships can move through the barrier freely. Equipped with no sublight thrusters, but a transpace drive, it can warp to frontline positions and reposition itself as necessary.

The model has a spherical shield mesh approximately 10 kilometers in radius, as noted in the tech description. Simply disable its shields by giving it no shield points (or delete the shield mesh entirely) if you wish to use it for another purpose, like a Comm Node or something.
If you keep the shield mesh, it is advisable to give the ship a "knossos" flag in the tables so that it finishes exploding in a timely fashion. Otherwise, the game believes it is 22km in every direction, and thus its death explosions take upwards of tens of minutes to reach completion.
In alchemy, Alkahest was a theoretical universal solvent, capable of dissolving anything. Such substance was sought after by alchemists to dissolve gold for use in medicine, because of the believed healing properties at that time.
A similar substance in alchemy is azoth.
