The GVF Ptah is an Allied Vasudan-designed prototype stealth fighter. Much like the GTF Pegasus, the Ptah was designed to be invisible to normal sensor arrays. The Ptah played a crucial, although relatively minor, role during the single player FreeSpace 2 campaign, for it was used to gather scans of the SJ Sathanas's subsystems. These scans would later reveal weak spots on the Shivan juggernaut.

Description:

FS2 Tech Room Description

The stealth prototype GVF Ptah was a top-secret development project assigned to Vasudan conglomerate Akheton Corp. Designed to be invisible to standard detection arrays mounted on combat craft, Ptahs have performed admirably during their OpEval period. The masking materials and blending technologies used across their outer surfaces seem to confuse Shivan detection systems as well. The Ptah is currently available only to select fighter units in the Vasudan navy, with no word on when they will be more widely distributed.

Almost statistically identical to the Pegasus. The main difference being that the Ptah can carry the Mehku instead of the Subach. Also, the Pegasus'/Ptah's tabling is inconsistent and contains references stating that the Peg has 2 gun mounts and 1 missile rack versus Ptah's 1 and 2, respectively, but in defining secondary bay size and number of default primaries later in the same table ships are identical.

Its target profile is much bigger than that of the Pegasus. Rather than being a razor-thin triangle, the Ptah is more of a scrunched up snail. The snail is compact but is not as difficult to hit as the Pegasus. In addition, it is not as hard to see as the Pegasus in space or nebula environments.

This is more of a recon craft than a fighter. Don't get in any big dogfights in this ship. It maneuvers like a dream, even better than the GVF Serapis, but its weak defenses and limited secondary capacity play against it. It cannot be targeted unless there is an AWACS vessel nearby, allowing it to do things like scanning a Sathanas, covertly.

The Ptah has respectable armor, almost as much as the GTF Perseus, and its stealth technology makes up for its other weaknesses, such as its small missile banks. The "Vasudan Gauntlet" in FS2 multiplayer makes battling these fighters a nightmare, as they can easily kill off your entire wing before you can find and neutralize them.

Surprisingly difficult to see in standard multiplayer. The MediaVPs version shines and is actually a good bit more visible than the Pegasus from far away.
