UNEF

The following information strictly refers to Strygon's First Contact War Universe and is therefore not canon to the FreeSpace Universe, nor is it related. Also, it may contain spoilers regarding First Contact War campaigns.

The Greater Earthen Unified Forces or Greater Earth Union (GEU) and the United National Earth Fleet (UNEF) are a set of military groups that formed shortly after the Sol System was fully colonized.

The GEU was a loose merger of all remaining nations on Earth that did not move their government off Earth. The merger was initially met with strong resentment, and internal conflicts hindered the GEU's ability to take effective actions outside of Earth.

Meanwhile the UNEF was a military authority established by the United Nations Security Council. While their control led to a very harsh and corrupt government, their military equipment was nothing short of excellent.

After the Solar Splintering, the UNEF launched a swift and powerful takeover over the GEU Senate, assuming total control over the nation.

However, not too long after extrasolar colonisation began, the UNEF was destroyed during a civil war in Sol and was replaced by the Sol Coreworld Union.

Government

The GEU was governed by the Earth Senate, a council consisting of all national leaders of the Earth Nations. The haphazard organisation and radically differing cultures between these leaders was the main cause for many internal conflicts in the GEU.

UNEF was led by a Commissary-General, elected by the highest ranking officers of the various military branches. Law enforcement and justice were usually handled by members of the military as well.
