The GTT Argo

The GTT Argo was a class of transport developed sometime during the start of the Reconstruction era and the beginning of the Second Shivan Incursion. The Argo improved upon the GTT Elysium, being tougher and able to transport more personnel. It was also better armed. It still heavily relied on fighter escort, however.

FS2 Tech Room Description

The GTT Argo has become the standard military transport vehicle for the Terran fleet. Argos sometimes carry new weapon and combat craft prototypes to and from testing grounds or to front-line deployment positions. Military VIPs occasionally commandeer Argos to travel from star system to star system in some semblance of comfort. Argos are most often used as assault transports, carrying squads of Marines through heavy flak to board enemy vessels that Command has decided to capture rather than destroy.

This Terran transport is better armored than its predecessor, the Elysium. In fact, it is also significantly better armored than a Fenris, making it fairly survivable on a battlefield as long as bombers are not involved. The major disadvantage of the Argo is its huge target profile, and the fact that Terran Turrets are a waste of turrets.

In at least one case in the Main Campaign an Argo mounts flak turrets. This upgrade would be quite welcome to the rest of the fleet.
