The GTD Nereid was an Orion-class destroyer that served during the Great War. Sometime before the Second Shivan Incursion, the Nereid was decommissioned. Later, the Nereid was recommissioned for a special operation: the Nereid was to be loaded with Meson Bombs and self-destructed within the Vega-Capella Jump Node corridor, severing the node and preventing the Shivan fleet from entering Terran-Vasudan space. The GTD Bastion, another Orion destroyer, successfully completed a similar operation.
